JOSEPH WILLEN, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BELT.
Application filed September 20, 1920. Serial No. 411,432.
To ./ZZ w hom t may concern Be it known that I, IosnrH WILLEM a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicagol in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a belt; and il do hereby declare thatA`v the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates more particularly to a belt designed for use by a person for supporting garments.
It is an object of my invention to construct a belt having an extending frontal base for supporting the belt loop and give it a neat appearance.
It is also an object of my invention to construct a belt having two sets of keepers, one on each side of the buckle.
The novel structure and arrangement of parts come within the scope of my invention as will be more apparent from the disclosures in the specification and drawings.
On the drawings:
Figure is a frontal perspective view of my belt.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the frontal portion of the belt.
Figure 3 is an enlarged section on the line SW3 of Figure l.
Figure fl is an enlarged section on the line lf-4C of Figure l,
Figur-e 5 is a 'frontal elevation of the frontal base portion.
As shown on the drawings:
My improved belt comprises a body portion or strap l, which is bent upon itself at the point Q from whence it is doubled upon itself for a considerable distance, the buckle (3 being secured between these overlapping portions intermediate the ends thereof as sliov-:n in Figure The buckle can be slipped over the strap l before the same is folded, and a slot cut in the outer fold thereof, to receive the tongue of the buckle 6 which may be sewed or riveted in place as desired. lA plurality of keepers but or loops l3 are secured between these overlapping portions by' means of fastening devices et. These keepers as shown are eight in number, four on each side of the buckle 6, those on the right hand side securingthe flap end of the strap, while those on the left hand side secure the base part 5 in proper alinement with the belt. It is characteristic of my invention that the belt buckle does not come in contact with the clothes rests against ther base portion Further, the base portion 5,. produces a substantial frontal support that has a tendency to keep the garment smooth and free from objectionable wrinkles since the garment can be smoothed out before the base portion 5 is applied thereto, and the garment will be held in such position.
The use of my improved belt is obvious; it is only necessaryto wrap the belt around a person inserting the end of` the' belt through the left hand keepers and the buckle and then, after the belt has become fastened by the buckle, inserting the loose end under the keepers on the right hand side.
I am aware that numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
rin apparel belt, comprising a bodyportion or strap having one end folded lupon ,itself for a substantial length, a buckle secured to the outer layer of said folded portion intermediate the ends thereof, said folded portion beingextended beyond the tongue of said buckle, and keepers secured to said folded portion on each side of said buckle.
YIn testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my naine in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
Y JOSEPH WILLEN.
