This invention relates to garments and supports therefor, and more particularly to mens trousers and a belt cooperative with the trousers in retaining the trousers in desired position on I the person of a wearer.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a belt engageable with trousers and a shirt respectively, worn by a wearer, the belt being capable of holding the trousers up and the shirt down in the position desired by the wearer.

Other important objects of the present inventionare to provide a garment arranged to receive portions of the belt on the inside and outside thereof whereby the belt may simultaneously engage the garment and a shirt, the tail of which is tucked into the garment; to provide a two-part belt, joined at one end and joinable at the other end; to provide for retaining the garment, belt and shirt in desired position through relative engagement therebetween; to prevent slippage of the shirt when in contact with the belt; to prevent riding of the belt out of desired position relative to the garment; to pro- 25 vide improved parts and arrangements of parts in a garment and support therefor of this character; and to provide a durable, economical and eflicient garment and support of attractive appearance.

In accomplishing these and other objects of the present invention, I have provided improved details of structure, the preferred form of Which is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a pair of trousers having a belt applied thereto, both the trousers and belt embodying the features of the present invention.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the 40 front portion of the waist band of the trousers,

portions of the ends of the belt parts being shown in section to particularly illustrate their joinder while in trouser supporting position.

Fig. 3 is a detail fragmentary perspective view 45 of a portion of the trousers particularly illustrating the slit through the waist band thereof, the belt loop for covering the slit being broken away to better show the relation between the waist band, slit and loop.

Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the belt embodying features of the present invention, parts thereof being broken away to better illustrate its construction.

Referring more in detail to the drawing:

l designates a pair of trousers having a waist band 2 and the usual interengageable split or inner and outer fly portions 3 and 4. 5 and 6 designate slits adjacent the fly portion of the trousers which are preferably arranged in substantially perpendicular relation to the upper edge of the waist band on opposite sides of the fly. I and 8 designate belt loops which are fixed to the outer face of the waist band in a suitable manner in covering relation to the slits 5 and 6, the loops 1 and 8 preferably being wider than thecustomary belt loops 9 and I0 spaced about the outer'face of the waist band of the trousers, the latter loops being adaptedto support portions of a belt in the usual manner.

II, I2 and I3 designate belt loops secured to the inner face of the waist band in a suitable manner and spaced from eachother and arranged in such a manner as'to pass a portion of a belt therethrough andretain the belt portion against slippage or riding upwardly above the upper edge of the waist band upon physical exertion of a wearer of the trousers.

In Fig. 4, the preferred form of belt is illustrated which is cooperative with the trousers illustrated inFig. l for supporting the trousers in desired position upon a wearer, a portion of the belt being adapted for engagement with a shirt or the like, the tail of which is worn within the waist band of the trousers,

I5 generally designates the belt constructed in accordance with my invention, which preferably includes two parts I6 and IT. For the sake of convenience, the ends I8 of the belt parts adjacent a buckle therefor are termed the inner ends and the ends I Sand 20 of the belt parts are termed the outer ends.

The outer belt part I6 may be of any siutable character that is convenient in providing a substantially conventional belt, and preferably includes a cloth covering ZI of the same material as the trousers I, Fig. 1, a stiffening element 22 being provided Within the cover 2| for forming a durable semi-rigid support for the trousers. Such a belt part is easy to handle and easily passes through the Waist band belt loops and about the body of a wearer of the garment.

The outer end I9 of the outer part I6 of the belt is preferably provided with a pocket 23 for receiving the outer end 20 of the inner part I! of the belt subsequent to passage of both outer ends I9 and 20 through a buckle 24 to join those ends together and secure the belt about the body of the wearer under binding pressure convenient to the wearer.

It has been found desirable to form the inner 55 in the buckle. The outer ends of the belt parts and outer belt portions I6 and I! of different lengths for the reason that, since the outer part It extends about the outer face of the garment and the inner part I! extends about the inner face of the garment, a discrepancy will normally appear in joining the outer ends of the belt parts due to the difference in the perimeters of the figures traced by the belt parts. As a matter of practice, the belt parts are connected at one end in a common point and the inner belt part is of slightly shorter length than the outer belt part, it being apparent," however, that, if desired, the inner belt part may be tightened more than the outer belt part for engaging the body of the person wearing the. garment, the

'Ihe provision of the inside belt loop l2 at the center of the back of the waist band of the trousers, together with the inside loops H and I3 prevent riding of the inner belt part out of the waist band of the trousers and thus presents a neat appearing garment, the material 26 on the inner face of the inner belt part meanwhile engaging the shirt and holding the tail of the i t 19 0 t nd th t the w are of the garment and shirt presents a neat appearance.

The outer belt part gives the effect of a belt of conventional character and serves a conventional purpose in addition to its cooperation with the inner belt part in holding the trousers up and the shirt down. By placing the slits adjacent the fly portion of the trousers, the belt maintains the front of the trousers in desired position and further enhances the appearance of the trousers and the person Wearing them.,

, It is thus apparent that a garment and support therefor have been provided which give the eifect of neatness in the wearer of them, the

1 invention providing a durable, economical and efficient garment and support therefor having the characteristics capable of carrying out the objects forwhich they were designed.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l In a support for a garment of the character described, a two-part belt having joined and free ends respectively, a buckle on the joined ends of said belt, the free ends of said belt parts being e e: rou h e buckle to join the same,
