IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED SHIRT-8080M SUPPORTS AND CHEST-PROTECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,919, dated-January 27, 1874; application filed July 14, 1873.

The nature of my invention consists in combining, with a shirt-bosom expander, a case, within which the expander is placed, and which is made of chamoisskin on the inner side, and of flannel on the outer side, of the bosom expander, and forming a lung-protector, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to de scribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure l is a front View, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal'section, of my combined shirt-bosom expander and lung-protector.
A represents a shirt-bosom support or expander, made of wire or any other suitable material, and which may be made substantially in the manner described in my Letters Patent No. 139,7 97, dated June 10, 1873, or in any other manner that will answer the same purpose. This support or expander I inclose in a case made of a piece, B, of chamois-skin, and a piece, 0, of flannel, the latter being on the front or outer side, and the former on the inner side, of the expander. The loops (1. a of the bosom-expander A pass through the edges of the casing thus made, so as to be buttoned to the shirt; and to the upper edge of the case is attached an elastic band, I), to be passed around the neck of the wearer.
The casing B G, from its position on the breast of the wearer, forms a protection for the lungs.
