L. RADCLIFFE HAIR WAVER Filed'Feb. 21, 1925 Patented Sept. ii, i923.
LOUIE RADCLIFFE, 0F INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
HAIR WAVEE.
Application filed February 21, 1923. Serial No. 620,416.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, LOUIE RADOLIFFE, citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Maridn and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Wavers, of which the following is a specification. w
My invention relates to hair wavers and one of the objects of the invention is' to provide a device of this character'- which is adapted to be attached to the hair on retiring at night, which is light in weight, easy to handle and cheaply manufactured.
Another object is to provide a evice of this character in whichfthe length of the wave may be varied as desired. o
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel and peculiar features of construction and combination of parts as hereinafter described and claimed; and in order that it may be fully understood reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Fig. l'is a perspective view of one section.
Fig. 2 is aview showingthe waver in operative position.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through one of the sections shown in Fig. 2.
,Fig. 4 is a transverse section ,of Fig. 2, through the fastening prongs.
The sections may all *be made of the same size and are-preferably constructed of a flat piece of aluminum, comprising a top part 2 Y and a lower part .3 jointed together at one end in any suitable manner, as by the loops 4, to permit movement of the parts with respect to each other. For holding the top and bottom parts together, the upper part may be-provided with a tongue 6 adapted to be slipped under the lip- The upper part of each section is provided with projections 8, turned up at right angles to the plane of the section. The upper part is also provided with a series ofapertures- 9, into which the said projections are adapts ed to fit. V
In operation, the hair is placed between the lower part 3 of the section 10 and the upper part 2, the two parts then being locked together by the interengagement of the tongue 6 and lip 7; The section 11 is now placed in position with the hair between the upper and lower parts thereof, but before clamping the parts together the projections 8 of one section'engage the apertures 9 of the adjacent section. On account of the provision of a plurality of apertures, it is possible to adjust one section longitudinally of the other, and in this manner the size of the wave can be varied as desired.
While the sections are here shown as all the same size, they can obviously be made of different sizes. The top and bottom sections instead of being joinedtogether by the unitary loop 4; can bemade separable and connected together by any suitable means. The sections instead of being straight as shown may also be made curved, when the hair on the side of the forehead is to be curled.
After the hair has remained in the waver for a suitable period of time, the sections are then removed and the hair will be found to be in a wavy condition. I
From the above description, it will be apparent that I have produced a device of the character described, which possesses all the features enumerated as desirable and while I have illustrated and described this preferred form of the invention, it will be understood that I reserve the right to all changes properly falling within the scope and spirit of the a pended claims.
Therefore what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A hair waver comprising a series of elongated sections of metal bent to form series of teeth adapted to receive strands of hairtherebetween, and means for relatively adjusting the said sections longitudinally of each other to vary the wave.
2. A hair wavercomprisino' a series of sections of metal provided wit teeth adapted to receive strands of hair therebetween,
projections onone of the sections engaging tune. I
