DISPLAY APPLIANCE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALnXIs BEARCE, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Niagara Falls, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have mvented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Appliances, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to display appln ance. A display appliance involving the invention can with advantage be used in a variety of connections. For instance, it can be used for receiving and showing for exhibition or storage purposes, silverware of various kinds such as knives, forks or spoons. Among the principal objects of the 1nvention are the provision of an article of this character which can be readily and inexpensively produced and which is as stable, as practicable, and by which the articles cannot only be readily mounted, but as quickly dismounted either for use or for sale.

In the drawing accompanying and forming part of the present specification l have shown in detail one of the several forms of embodiment of the invention which to enable those skilled in the artto practice the same will be set forth fully in the accompanying description. Obviously I am not restricted to this disclosure. I may depart therefrom in a number of particulars with in the scope of the invention defined by the claim following said description.

The article preferably but not essentially, involves in its construction a box comprislike parts ing a body as 2 which may be made of proper material, such as pasteboard, furnished with a removable lid'3. It may not in all cases be necessary to provide abox and where there is a box, it need not necessarily have a lid 3. Fitted in the box body 2 when the same is present, is a pad 4. This pad usually comprises a body of proper formation such as arectangular sheet or piece of pasteboard, or equivalent material,

partly covered with some fabric, which may be silk, satin, velvet or paper, or the body of the pad may be merely painted or plain if desired.

Through this pad and extending trans versely thereof is shown the virtually rectangular and somewhat elongated slot 6 which functions as I will hereinafter explain. Associated with the pad 4 is a rack such as that denoted in a general way by 7.

This rack comprises a body as 8 practically in plan desirably of the same shape as the slot 6, the body 8 being generally covered with fabric as 9 which may be of the same color as the fabric or paper 5 on the pad 4. The body 8 has in it the cuts or notches 10 generally diagonal to the longitudinal axis thereof and which are of a width and depth to properly receive the articles tobe'displayed.

The superficial area of the fabric 9 is somewhat greater than that of the upper sur-. face of the body 8 for a reason that will hereinafter appear. This fabric 9 may be the same color as that of the fabric 5 when the latter is present, or may be of a contrast ing shade.

Initially the pad 4 has attached thereto, the facing or fabric 5 in which is usually held thereto by glue, the slot 6, extending, of course through the fabric 5, which constitutes the exposed surface of the pad. The

body 8 will then have placed upon its upper smoothing the sides and ends of the fabric.

This fastens the rack 7 firmly in position.

The pad 4 is then gummed or otherwise suitably attached to the upper surface of the bottom of the box body 2.
