NEEDLE'vENnoB. IN THE roam or A 'MINIATURE PHoNoGniuH.
Application filed. May 26, 1924. Serial No. 715,843.
This invention relates to a. sales device or display device for the accessory of a machine such as a phonograph. fhile the 1nvention might be usedwith various articles andinachines, one particular use therefor 1s for displaying phonograph needles. Phonograph needles are now generally sold by the same dealers who sell the phonographs. The needles are4 not prominently displayed, as a rule, and it is often the case that the users of phonographs are without needles and are not reminded to purchase needles on account of the fact that the needles are not prominently displayed in the stores. l
It is an object of this invention to provide a device in the form of a miniature phonograph, or other machine, which device can be placed on the counter of a drug store or other store and which will carry therein and prominently display phonograph needles or other necessary accessories ofthe machine. Such needles or other accessory will thus he conveniently handled and displayed in other stores than those which handle the machines and will be accessible'in*neighborhood drug stores 'and similar stores in outlying residence sections.
It is a further object of the invention to provide such a device in the form of a miniature phonograph having supporting legs, which legs are also arranged to sup` port the receptacle carrying the accessory or the needles. v
These and other objects and advantages ot the invention will be fully set forth in the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like referencev characters refer tothe same parts throughout the different views. and in which,
Fig. l is a .view in perspective of the device; y I
Fig. 2 is a transverse. vertical section taken substantially on the line 2- 2 of Fig. 1, as
indicated by the arrows;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through one end of the device, taken on the line 3-3 in'Fig. lis
console type ot'v phonograph or talking maw chine comprising the body portion 1 and the leg-members 2. The exterior of the body portion 1 will be colored, finished or e1nbossed to represent the highly finished wood of an actual standardtalking machine. The body l, however', is quite small and forms in effect' a miniature talking machine, the same being in vone commercial size substantially ten inches long and six. inches Wide. 1While the body 1 may be formed in any suitable manner, in the embodimentof the invention illustrated, the same is formed from one blank of sheet material, the bottom portion 1a being rectangular in form and having the side portions 1b folded upwardly therefrom. The bottom portion la also has an upwardly folded end portion 1 at each end thereof. The side portions 1h have rectangularportions ld at each end thereof which fold across the end of a box in superposed adjacent relation and at the outer side of the end piecel". The layers l.c and 1h are glued or secured together in any siitable manner but are free adjacent the corners of the box. A hinged lid or cover 3-is provided hinged along one of the sides lbby a flexible stra-p 3 suitably glued, orotherwise connected to said side and the cover. A handle-equipped crank et is provided which projects at one end of the body l and simulates the usual motor crank on the standard talking machine. The crankis journaled in the outer sheet lf and disposed between the ,same and the inner end piece 1C. The crank has an inner arm 4 thereon connected by a link 5 to the underside ot' the cover 3 adjacent its hinged edge. The said cover can thus be lifted by a turningr movement of the crank 4.
The legs 2 have lower portions which are illustrated as in the form ot' the well known French leg and these portions are provided with an angular flange 2a from which rises the portion 2* com rising an integral strip having its sides (isposed at right angles. One of the sides of thepoi tion2b terminates in a round tongue 2'. while the' other side terminates-in a similar round tongue 2i which, howevcigis bentpdownwurdly substantially at a right angle along side of the tongue 2. The portion 2b of` the leg is disposed in the body 1 at one corner thereof with the outer 'sides lof the portion 2b contacting the side- 'vio i these flanges on the legs ,thus support Y the body 1. The bent-over `tongue 2d is thus disposed along side of the end piece 1c and these folded over tongues 2d formed the support-l for'a rectangular tray 6 disposed in the upper portion of therbody 1 directly under the cover 3.. The tray 6 is divided by transverse partitions 6a lnto a plurality of longitudinal Ipockets which are adapted to carry `the needle packages 7. The packages 7 containing different kinds of needles may be separated in the compartments of'tray. 6 by transverse partitions 8, if desired. Also a chamber 1e is thus formed in the body l below tthe tray 6 andl this chamber can conveniently be utilized 'for holding unopened packages of the needle containers 7. A needle may be mounted and displayed atthe top of one or 'moreportions 8, showing the type of needle in the adjacent compartment.
In'operation, the device which, as Stated,
will be nicely finished and ornamented, and preferably embossed to simulate an actual phonograph will be placed on the store counter. It willobviously attract attention. The cover `3 normally. vvlll be elevated and the various kinds ofstyles of needles in the packets 7 thus prominently` displayed. The display of the' needles to the many customers visiting the store will result in 'many sales thereof and persons in need of needles will be reminded to purchase the` same. At the same time, the various types and styles of'needles will be called to the attention of the customers. If desired, the cover 3 may be ke t normally closed and a direction card p acedi adjacent the device directing the customer to turn the crank simple and easily and inexpensively p rov duced and has great utility in connectlon with the sale of the articles intended.
It will, of course, be understood, that various changes maybe made in the form, details, arrangement and proportionsof the parts Without departing from the scope -of applicants invention, which, generally stated consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth, such as shown and described and set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A sales display device for the necessary accessory' parts of a machine, such as a phonosrap rectangular casing having one side thereof formed of a plurality of layers of sheet material, lsaid layers being loose adjacent the corners of said casing, legs having portions of angle shape in 4cross section `disposed in said casing, one side of said portions being disposed between said layers 'and the other side being disposed alon the ad'acent side of said casing, one o said si es of said portions having a bent=over end,
comprising a substantially and a tray in said casing supported on said bent-over ends.
2. The structure-set forth in claim 1, said leg members having integral projecting shoulders formed thereon on which the sides of' said casing rest, whereby said casing is supported on said legs. i
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures.
