DISPLAY BOX.
Application filed January 22, 1925. Serial No. 4,081.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in display boxes of the type best adapted for use in the sale of greeting cards, although not limited to such a commodity.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a display box for use in attractively presenting to the public a plurality of relatively small articles which may be of differ- 1U ent sizes and which must be kept arranged according to their sizes.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel form. of filler for maintaining the diflerent articles to be displayed in their proper places.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a filler which is formed from a blank that is cut and folded on suitable lines for forming a plurality of pockets within which the articles to be displayed are placed.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for maintaining the parts of the filler just referred to which form the pockets in their proper positions for defining the said pockets, which means may be removed to permit the filler to be flattened out when desired. v
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the filler embodying this invention is stamped,
Figure 2 is a plan view of the filler properly folded and positioned within a box,
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken upon lines IIIIII of Fig. 2, and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of one corner of the filler illustrated with the pockets formed therein.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of this invention, the numeral 5 designates in its entirety the blank from which is formed the filler illustrated in the various figures. This blank is cut on the lines 6 for forming corner flaps 7 carried by the side walls 8 of the filler and intended to overlap the adjacent end portions of the end walls 9, as best illustrated in Fig. 4,
when the said walls 8 and the lines 8 and 9 The central or top wall portion 10 of the filler is cut on the lines 11 for forming the flaps 12 which are to be bent in opposite 9 are folded upon directions on the lines 13 and 14 for forming the side walls 15 of the pockets shown in Figs. 2 to 4; inclusive and the inwardly pro ecting tongues 16.
After the wall portions 8 and 9 are folded upon the lines 8 and 9 and the flaps 12 folded upon the lines 13 and 14 for forming secured to the tongue portions 16 and bearing against the lower edges of the side walls 15. It will be seen, by inspecting Figs. 2 and 3 that a very attractive and finished pocket is then provided within which any desired articles, such as greeting cards or the like, may be arranged.
It will be seen that the side walls of the body of the box 17 will maintain the side walls 8 and 9 of the filler in their proper positions and that the card-like pocket bottoms 19 will retain the flaps 12in their proper positions in respect to each other to define the respective pockets. In shipping, the filler is shipped in its flat condition, the flaps being bent to form the pocket walls and the bottoms 19 being adhesively secured in place upon the shipment arriving at its destination.
It is to be understood that the form of this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. A filler for display boxes consisting of a blank of foldable material having a pocket forming portion defined from the body of the blank by fold lines arranged to form a rectangle, said pocket formin portion having diagonal slits extending rom each corner toward 'the center, said blank having slits connecting said diagonal lines whereby to form four trapezoidal flaps each having its major base coincident with one of said fold lines and each having a fold line parallel to the major base, all of the last mentioned fold lines being equidistant from the respective major bases, said blank being rectangular in form and having fold lines spaced inwardly from its periphery a distance equal to the space between the major base of one of the trapezoidal flaps and its last mentioned fold line, the fold lines adjacent said periphery being parallel thereto, one parallel pair of the last mentioned fold lines terminating in slits to provide end tabs, said blank having its peripheral portions bent downwardly on the last mentioned fold lines and the end tabs bent over on the adjacent peripheral portions, the blank fur ther having the trapezoidal flaps bent downwardly on the basal fold lines and inwardly on the remaining fold lines.
2. A compartment forming device for boxes comprising a sheet of material fashionedto form a plurality of rectangular apertures in which cards and similar articles are adapted to be placed, said sheet being fashioned around the four side walls of the apertures to form depending wall members, and each of the four wall members of the separate apertures having inwardly projecting flanges upon which the cards are adapted to rest to retain said cards in fixed position when the device is placed in a box or container.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
