This invention relates to boxes for use in packing and displaying articles of merchandise of various kinds and classes, and the object of the invention is to provide an article of manufacture of the class described, consisting of an outer box part open at opposite ends and an inner article mounting and supporting part which fits snugly in the first named part and includes a bottom wall structure for closing the bottom of the first box part; a further object being to provide a box of the class described wherein the box parts have registering apertures in the side walls thereof through which articles supported in the box are visible, some of said articles being visible through the upper open end of the outer box part and a sheet of transparent material covering the articles and openings of the box to protect the same against dust and moisture and yet not interfere with the visibility of said article; a further object being to provide means for supporting articles within the inner box part to expose the same through the openings formed therein; a still further object being to pro- .vide a box of the class described wherein the inner box part is formed from a single rectangular strip of material having a series of folds therein, whereby said sheet will form, of said box part, top, bottom and intermediate horizontal walls and side walls, the top and intermediate walls having means whereby pins or rods of certain articles mounted in the box may be passed therethrough at predetermined intervals and supported therein; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a packing and display box of the class specified which is simple in construction, efiicient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

side walls 7-7a thereof are provided with openings 8-82 folded adjacent to the end of the box so as to register with corresponding .openings in the inner box part. It is also 7 preferred that the upper edges of the side and end walls of the box part 5 be scalloped, as seen at 9, to give an ornamental appearance thereto.
The box part 6 is made from a rectangular 7 sheet of cardboard of the form indicated at 641, in Fig. 4 of the drawing,'and this sheet is folded on the score lines 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 to form wall parts 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21
' and 22. The wall parts 16 and 18 constitute the side walls of the box part 6 and have rectangular openings 16a18a therein which register with the openings 8-8a of the box part 5. The part 17 forms the top wall of box part 6 and has longitudinally arranged and spaced slits 23 arranged over correspondingly spaced X-cuts 24 in the part 21, which constitutes an intermediate wall part arranged above the bottom wall part 19. The sections 20 and 22 lie upon and serve to reinforce the walls 16 and 18 respectively, as well as to maintain the several walls of the box part 6 in proper position. To aid in accomplishing this result, a tongue 25 is cut from the part 18 and rests over the intermediate wall 21 as clearly seen in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing.
We also employ two other article supporting members 26 and 27, the member 26 being of channel cross sectional form adapted toreceive and support two groups or bunches of wax candles 28 visible through the openings 16a and 8 respectively; whereas the member 27 is in the form of a strip upon which decorative elements 29, such for example as flowers, are arranged, the latter being visible through the openings 18a and 8a respectively v of the separate box parts.
The box herein described is designed primarily for use in packing, shipping and displaying what are known as candle holders 30, as well as the candles for use in connection with the holders and decorative members kindred to the other articles, all of the articles in question bein commonly employed in the decoration of ca es and like confections. It will be understood, at this time, that while a specific use is disclosed, the box construction can be used in conjunction with the packing-and displaying of other articles of merchandise.
The candle holders 30 are of conventional form and include floral heads 31 in which the candles are supported and supporting rods or pins 32 extending therefrom.
In packing the boxes for shipment after the box part 5 is made, the sheet 6a is folded on the score lines 10 to 15 consecutively, in one series of folds performed in one direction to produce the result shown in Fig. 3, that is to say, it is not essential to fold a sheet first in one direction and then in an opposite direction in accomplishing the desired result. In the operation of folding, the ton e 25 is forced out so as to be positioned a ve the wall 21 with the part 6 in the position shown in Fig. 3. The rods or pins 32 of the holder 30 are passed downwardly through the slits 23, and then through the X-cuts 24 to support a sheet of transparent material 33, such as the holders in connection with the part 6,
after which the member 26, with the candles 28 therein, is placed in one side of the part 6 between the walls 17 and 21 with the candles directed downwardly to be visible through the opening 16a, then the member-27 is arranged at the other side of the part 6 so that the decorative flowers 29 will be visible through the openin s 1811, in the manner illustrated in Fig. 2 o the drawing.
With the parts thus assembled and packed,
cellophane or glassine paper is placed over the top of the candle holders and downwardly over the side walls 16 and 18 of the box part 6, as well as'over the ends thereof, and the box part with the. sheet 33 thereon is then passed upwardly through the bottom of the ox part 5 until the bottom wall 19 comes flush with the lower edges of the side walls 77a of the box part5, this completes the operation of packing the articles in the box.
It will be understood that a number of the boxes packed,as above stated, may be placed in a container and thus shipped to the retailer who will remove the boxes from the container parent sheet 33 covers and forms windows for the latter openings, and also remains over the candle holders so as to maintain the same in a dustproof and sanitary condition.
It will also be understood that by providing the bottom wall 19 to the part 6, the rods or pins 32, which are usually composed of metal, are also protected from the elements and prevent rusting thereof, and this bottom wall also aids in preventing dust from entering the box. I

It will also be apparent that in addition-to forming a support for the various articles, the box part 6, by virtue of its construction, also serves toreinforce and strengthen the box part 5, preventing the crushing of the articles packed therein, this being apparent from the fact that three transverse wall members 17, 19 and 21 are employed.
It will be understood that our invention is not necessarily limited to the use of the openings in the side walls of the innerand outer box parts 5 and 6, nor is it essential to pack the candles 28 and decorative elements 29 in the complete box. At the same time, it will also be ap arent that other or similar articles may a so be mounted and packed within the box part 6 between the walls 19 and 21, and the latter may or may not be displayed through the side walls of the box parts 5 and 6.
It will be understood that various other changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made within .the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of ,our invention or sacrificing its advantages.

A box for packing stemmed articles comprising an outer box part open at the top and bottom and an inner box part fashioned to form spaced wall members. transversing the first box part intermediate the open ends thereof, one of said transverse walls having longitudinally spaced slits and the other, longitudinally spaced X-cuts disposed in vertical alinement with said slits, the stems of the articles mounted in the box frictionally passing through said slits and cuts in supporting the articles in said container, and said inner box part being formed from a single sheet of material and including side tom and an inner box part fashioned to form spaced wall members transversing the first box part intermediate the open ends thereof, one of said transverse walls having longitudinally spaced slits and the other longitudinally spaced X-cuts disposed in vertical alinement with said slits, said inner box part being formed from a single sheet of material and including side wall members projecting below said transverse wall members, one of said transverse wall members constituting the top of the inner box part, and means in one of the side walls of said inner box part for supporting the other transverse wall member in predetermined position with respect thereto.

A box of the class described comprising an outer box part open at the top and bottom and an inner box part fashioned to form spaced wall members transversing the first box part intermediate the open ends thereof, one ofsaid transverse walls having longitudinally spaced slits and the other-longitudinally spaced X-cuts disposed in vertical alinement with said slits, said inner box part being formed from a single sheet of material and including side wall members projecting below said transverse wall members, one of said transverse wall members constituting the top of the inner box part, means in one of the side walls of said inner box part for supporting the other transverse wall member in predetermined position with respect thereto, and a bottom wall member integral. with said inner box part and arranged in alinement with the lower edges of the outer box part.

A box of the class described comprising an outer box part open at the top and bottom and an inner box part fashioned to form spaced wall members transversing the first box part intermediate the open ends thereof, one of said transverse Walls having longitudinally spaced slits and the other longitudinally spaced X-cuts disposed in vertical alinement with said slits, said inner box part bein formed from a single sheet of material and including side wall members projecting below said transverse wall members, one of said transverse wall members constituting the top of the inner box part, means in one of the side walls of said inner box part for supporting the other transverse wall member in predetermined position with respect thereto, a bottom wall member integral with said inner box part and arranged in alinement with the lower edges of the outer box part, and the side walls of said inner and outer box parts having registering openings whereby articles supported in the inner'box part may be visible therethrough.

A box of the class described comprising an outer box part open at the top and bottom and an inner box part fashioned to form spaced wall members transversing the first box part intermediate the open ends thereof, one of said transverse walls having longitudinally spaced slits and the other longitudinally spaced X-cuts disposed in vertical alinement with said slits, said inner box part being formed from a single sheet of material and including side wall members projecting below said transverse wall members, one of said transverse wall members constituting the top of the inner box part, means in one of the side walls of said inner box part for supporting the other transverse wall member in predetermined position with respect thereto, a bottom wall member integral with said inner box part and arranged in alinement with the lower edges of the outer box part, the side walls .of said inner and outer box parts having registering openings whereby articles supported in the inner box part may be visible therethrough, and a sheet of transparent material covering said openings and forming windows therefor.

A box of the class described comprising inner and outer box parts, each made from a' single sheet of material, the outer box part being open at the top and bottom and the inner box part being inserted into the outer box part and disposed in the lower portion thereof so as to display articles mounted in connection with the inner box part through the upper open end of the outer box part, said inner box part consisting of top, bottom and side wall members and intermediate wall members, the top and intermediate wall members beingfashioned to receive and support articles for display through the top of the outer box part and to prevent displacement of said articles in said box part, the bottom wall member being disposed at the lower edge of the outer box part.
7 A box of the class described comprising inner and outer box parts each made from a single sheet of material, the outer box parts being open at the top and bottom, and the inner box part being inserted into the outer box part and disposed in the lower portion thereof so as to display articles mounted in connection with the inner box part through the upper open end of the outer box part, said inner box part consisting of top, bottom and side wall members and intermediate wall members, the top and intermediate wall membersbeing fashioned to receive and support articles for display through the top of the outer box part. and to prevent displacement of said articles in said box part, and means on one side wall of the inner box part cooperating with the intermediate wall thereof for retaining said wall against displacement.

A box of the class described comprising inner andouter box parts, each made from a single sheet of material, the outer box part being open at the top and bottom, and the inner box part being inserted into the outer box part and disposed in the lower portion thereof so as to display articles mounted in connection with the inner box part through the upper open end of the outer box part, said inner box part consisting of top, bottom and side wall members and. intermediate wall members, the'top and intermediate wall members being fashioned to receive and support articles for display through the top of the outer box part and to prevent displacement of said articles in said box part, said inner box part being formed from a rectangular sheet successively folded in one direction on a number of score lines forming the wall membersthereof.

A box of the class described comprising inner and outer box parts, each made from a single sheet of material, the outer box part being open at the top and bottom, and the inner box part being inserted into the outer box part and disposed in the lower portion thereof so as to display articles mounted in connection with the inner box part through the upper open end. of the outer box part, said inner box part consisting of top. bottom and side wall members and intermediate wall members, the top and intermediate wall members being fashioned to receive and support articles for display through the top of the outer box part and to prevent displacement of said articles in said box part, said inner box part being formed from a rectangular sheet successively folded in one direction on a number of score lines forming the wall members thereof, and said inner box partincluding supplemental side walls supporting and spacing the intermediate wall above the bottom wall.

A box of the class described comprising inner and outer box parts, each made from a single sheet of material, the outer box part being open at the top and bottom, and the inner box part being inserted into the outer box part and disposed in the lower portion thereof so as to display articles mounted in connection with the inner box part through the upper open end of the outer box part, said inner box part consisting of top, bottom and side wall members and intermediate wall members, the top and intermediate wall members being fashioned to receive and support articles for display through the top of the outer box part and to prevent displacement of said articles in said box part,-said intermediate wall dividing inner and outer box par tion thereof so as tov isplay articles mounting the inner box part into upper and lower article supporting chambers'in which predetermined articles may be packed or stored.
11. A box of the class described comprL- ts, each made from a single sheet of material, {the outer box part being open at the top and-rbottom, and
' the inner box part being inserted into the outer box part and dis osed in the lower pored in connect-ion with the inner box part through the upper open end of the outer box part, said inner box part consisting of top, bottom and side wall members and intermediate wall members, the top and intermediate wall members being fashioned to receive and support articles for display through the top of the outer box' part and to prevent displacement of said articles in said box part, said intermediate wall dividing the inner box part into upper and lower supporting chambers in which predetermined articles may be packed or stored, and the side walls of the inner box part having openings registering with one of said chambers to render the articles supported therein, vis- V ible through opposite sides of said box part.

A box of the class described comprising inner and outer box parts, each made from a single sheet of material, the outer box part being open at the top and bottom, and the inner box part being inserted into the outer box part and disposed in the lower portion thereof so as to display articles mounted in connection with the inner box part through the upper open end of the outer box art, said inner box part consisting of top, ottom and side wall members and intermediate wall members, the top and ine termediate wall members being fashioned to receive and support articles for display through the top of the outer box part and to prevent displacement of said articles in said box part, said intermediate wall dividing the inner box part into upper and lower article supporting chambers in which predetermined articles may be packed or stored, the side walls ofthe inner box part having openings registering with one of said chambers to render the articles supported therein, visible through opposite sides of said box part, and the outer box part having openings registering with the openings in the inner box part so that such articles may be visible externally of the complete box.

A box of the class described comprising inner and outer box parts, each made from a single sheet of material, the outer box part being open at the top and bottom and the inner box part being inserted into the outer box part and disposed in the lower portion thereof so as to' display articles mounted in connection with the inner box part through the upper open end of the outer box part, said inner box part consisting of top, bottom and side wall members and intermediate wall members, the top and intermediatewall memouter box part and to prevent displacement.

A box of the class described comprising inner and outer box. parts, each made from a single sheet of material, the outer box part being open at the top and bottom, and the inner box part being inserted into the outer box part and disposed inthe lower portion thereof so as to display articles mounted in connection with the inner box part through the upper open end of the outer box part, said inner box part consisting of top, bottom and side wall members and intermediate wall members, the top and inter mediate wall members being fashioned to receive and support articles for display through the top of the outer box part and to prevent displacement of said articles in said box part, said intermediate wall dividing the inner box part into upper and lower article supporting chambers in which predetermined articles may be packed or stored, the side Walls of the inner box part having openings registering with one of said chambers to render the articles supported therein, visible through opposite sides of said box part, the outer box part having openings registering with the openings in the inner box part so that such articles may be visible externally of the complete box, and a transparent sheet closing and forming windows for said openings, said transparent sheet also forming a closure for the open end of the outer box part and the articles supported therein.

A box for packing and displaying candle holders and associated articles of the class described, comprising an outer box part open at the top, means centrally Within and formed independently of said outer box part for supporting candle holders therein to display the same in the open top of said box part, means for supporting other articles within said box part, and an opening formed in the side wall structure of said box part to render said other articles visible therethrough.

A box for packing and displaying candle holders and associated articles of the class described, comprising an outer box part open at the top, means centrally within and formed independently of said outer box part for supporting candle holders therein to display the same in the open top of said box part, means for supporting other articles within said box part, an opening formed in the side wall structure of said box part to render said other articles visible therethrough, and
a sheet of transparent material forming a window and closure for said opening.
17. A box for packing and displaying candle holders of the class described, comprising an outer box part open at the top, means within said outer box part for supporting candle holders therein to display the same in the open end of said box part, means for supporting other articles within said box part, an opening formed in the side wall structure of said box part to render said at the top, an independently'formed inner box part having means centrally of the outer box part for supporting candle holders in an upright and spaced position therein to dis play the floral heads of said holders through the open top of said outer box part, means including said first named means for supporting candles within said inner box part, and the side walls of said inner and outer box parts having openings to render the candles visible through the side wall structure of said outer box part.
19. A box for packing and displaying candle and candle holders of the class described comprising an outer box part open at the top, an independently formed inner box part having means centrally of the outer box part for supporting candle holders in an upright and spaced position therein to display the floral heads of said holders through the opentop of said outer box part, means including said first named means for supporting candles and other articles in said inner box part, and the side walls of said inner and outer box parts having registering openings through which the candles and other articles are visible externally of the box.
20. A box for packing and displaying candle and candle holders of the class described comprising an outer box part open at the top, an independently formed inner box part having means centrally of'the outer box part for supporting candle holders in an upright and spaced position therein to display the floral heads of said holders through ticles are visible externally of the box, and a sheet of transparent material forming a window and closure for said openings.
