Description

Sept. 29, 1925.
A. J. SCUDERO PINCUSHION Filed Nov. 3, L922 J: INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 29, 1925.
UNI E TATEs ANDREW JOSEPH SCUDERO, OF PITTSBURG, CALIFORNIA.
PINcUsHIoN.
Application filed November 3, 1922. Serial No. 598,845.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ANDREW J. SoUDnRo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Contra Costa and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pincushions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ornamental boxes for use in storing handkerchiefs and other similar articles and has for its object the provision of a novel box for this and similar purposes provided with a hinged cover having its underside carrying a mirror and having its outer side formed as a pin cushion, it being intended that the device be made ornamental and attractive in appearance so as to make a pleasing display when placed upon a bureau, chifi'onier or the like.
Another object is the provision of a box of this character in which flexible members are provided for limiting the opening movement of the cover, and in which the body of the box is provided with a silk lining. An additional object is the provision of a storage box or case which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture. efficient and durable in use and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which! Figure 1 is a perspective view with the cover in open position,
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the cover closed and Figure 3 is a cross section.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the numeral 10 designates the body of the box or case which is here illustrated as being rectangular in shape but which might be of some other shape if preferred. The box may be constructed of any suitable material and may be of any size, the finish being of course such as to make a pleasing appearance.
The entire inside of the box is provided with a lining which may be removable or secured in position and this lining includes a wall like form 11 of card board or the like upon which is secured silk 12 which is shirrecl. The bottom is similarly lined with a card board or other form 13 covered with silk 14. The provision of this lining makes the inside of the box not only attractive in appearance but also makes a soft smooth receptacle for whatever articles are to be stored therein.
Hinged at 15 upon one edge of the box body is a cover 16 of corresponding shape which has its opening movement limited by means of ribbons or tapes 17 secured to the cover and the box body. The box is provided With a suitable lock device 18 co-operating With an element 19 on the cover whereby the cover may be locked in closed position.
The cover 16 is formed as a rectangular frame and extending across the intermediate portion thereof is apartition 20 against the underside of which is disposed a beveled edged mirror 21 held in position by retaining cleats 22 suitably secured to the side of the cover frame. The top portion of this cover frame contains a. pin cushion including a base member 23 of card board or the like having upstanding sides 24 and stretched over this structure is a covering 25 of fabric, preferably velvet or plush which is brought around and under the base member 23, the edges being cemented or glued onto the base member. At its center this base member 23 is formed with a. hole 26 through which saw dust or other filling indicated at 27 is introduced to stud the pin cushion. Subsequent to the filling action or process a sheet 28 is cemented or glued onto the edges of the fabric covering and onto the base member 28, this sheet serving to close the opening 26 to prevent escape of the stuffing. If preferred this pin cushion might be so constructed and arranged as to be removable or it may be pasted in place. i
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a simply c0nstructed and consequently inexpensive box or case which is capable of use for a wide variety of purposes and which will be a mostv attractive device for storage of various feminine articles, such as handkerchiefs, gloves and the like, the device having the further advantage of being equipped with a mirror and a pin cushion so that its utility will be greatly increased.
Having thus described my invention I claim: y
A p cushion formation comprising an outer rectangular frame member, a partition therein with its edges brought around belocated Within the frame, a backing member neath the bottom of the receptacle and enresting upon the partition, an open topped gagecl between the same and said backing 10 frame element formed with a central hole 11161111361 and id hole permitting introducand acting as a receptacle, :1. stuffing of yielcltioll Oil the gable material filling Said receptacle, a fabric In testimony whereof I dflix y Signaturestretched over the receptacle and stufiing ANDREW JOSEPH SCUDERO.
