DAVID LEVTGTON, OF NEW" YORK, N. Y.
DISPLAY BOX.
Application. filed May 15, 1925. Serial No, 39,500.
, invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Display Box, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates more particularly toa class of boxes for holding and displaying merchandise.
My invention has for its object primarily to provide a display box designed to be employed for enabling merchandisasuch as neck-wear and other appropriate articles, to be mounted on one or more separate boards which are removably positioned in the body of the box for permitting the body with the boards to be displayed in a manner whereby the merchandise will attract the attention I of persons as well as allowing readyselections. of the articles to be made. The invention consists essentially of a removable board or card which is disposed in flat position in the body of a box, and the board may be provided. with spaced depending flanges disposed edgewise on the bottom of the body for supporting the board above thebottom. @ne of the faces of the board is thereby exposed through the open top of the body, and on the exposed face of the board may be detachably fastened a class of neckwcar for persons or othersuitable articles for being displayed for sale. A. second board or card may be provided for also detachably holding neekwear or other merchandise, and this board is adapted to be disposed in upstanding position between part of the edge oi the other board and the wall of the body of the box for also displaying the articles for sale so that the articles on both boards may be kept in their respective groups to allow convenient selections to be made.
A. further object of the invention to provide a display box of a simple, eflicient and durable construction which may be made in appropriate sizes and shapes.
With these and other objects in View the invention will be hereinafter more fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification in which similar characters of reference in dicate corresponding parts in all the views,
and will then be pointed out inthe claims at the end oi. the description.
In the drawing, Figure l is aperspeetiv view oi one form of display box embodying my nivention.
. Fig. 2 is a plan or the blank from which one of the board members of the box is made.
Fig, 3 is a plan of the blank from which a the second board member is made, and
Fig. is a perspectiye View of thev relative positions oi both board members when assembled with the body of the hon removed therefrom,
In P t g my nv nt on I mpl y box bod as 10, which is preferably substantially rectangular in shape and of a suitable size to provide a bottom 11, front wall 12, rear wall 13 and'side walls let, 1; The body therefore has an open top 16 which may be opened and closed by a suitable cover, not shown. Within the body 10 are removable separate board ,or card 1116111" here 17 and 18.
The member 17 may be made of card board or other foldable material, and this member is preferably formed from a blank 19, Fig. 2, which is somewhat of a rectangular shape. The blank 19 in spaced relation to one of its ends is scored crosswise, at 20, and the blank in spaced relation to its other end is likewise scoredcrosswise, as at 21. In spaced relation to one of its side edges the blank is also scored length- .wise, as at 22, and the corners of the blank at the junctures of the scorings 20, 21, 22 is angular-1y cut-out, as at 23, 2a. The part of the blank 19 between the scorings 20, 21, 22 provide a surface section 25 .on which neckwear, such as how ties, as A, or other articles of merchandise may be 'detachably mounted. The part oi the blank 19 between the scoring 20 and the contiguous end of they blank provides a flange section 26, and the part of the blank between the scoring 21 and the adjacent end of the blank provides a flange section 27, while the part of the blank between the scoring 22 and the contiguous side edge of the blank provides another flange section 28. When the blank 19 is used for holding and displaying the bow ties A each having the usual neckband B, the blank is provided with spaced rows of spaced alined openings, as 29, 30, 31, one of the rows of the openings being positioned along each of the scorings 20, 21 and the third row of the openings being positioned midwaybetween the rows of openings 29, 31, as shown. The neckband B of each nee tie is removably inserted through two of the alined openings so that the tie proper is arranged on the upper face of the surface sec tion 25 of the blank. The blank is then folded on the scorings 20, 21, so that the flanges 26, 27, 28 are disposed rightangularly downward to the surface section 25 with the ties on the upper face of this section, and the blank as thus folded is of such a size that when disposed in the body 10 of the box the surface section 25 will closely fit remov ably in a flat position crosswise of the body, and the free edges of the flanges 26, 2'7, 28 will be positioned edgewise on the bottom 11 of the body for supporting the surface section 25 above the bottom and with the neck ties displayed through the open top of the body.
The blank 18 may be made of card board or other foldable material, and this blank is preferably approximately rectangular in shape. At the lower corners of the blank 18 and in spaced relation to the lower edge of the blank are two alined shore slits, as 31, 32; and the blank is scored, at 33, at the opposed ends of these slits toward the lower edge of the blank. The portions of the blank embraced within the slits 31, 32 and the scorings 38, 3% provide Wing members 35, 36. In one of the side edges of the blank 18 may be spaced notches, as 37, and in the second side edge of the blank may be a similar number of spaced notches, as 38, while in the central part of the blank may also be a like number of spaced openings, as 39. The notches 37, 38 and the opening 39 of each trio are on alinement lengthwise of the blank. When each bow tie A is detacha ly mounted on the blank 18 the neckband B is removably inserted through one of the openings 39 and the neckband is disposed in one of the complemental side notches of the blank so that the ,bow A is arranged on one of the faces of the blank. The wing members 35, 36 are then bent on the scorings 88, 3% toward each other angularly from the blank 23 under the surface section 25 of the blank 17, as shown in Fig. 1-, and these assembled parts may then be arranged in the box body l0, instead of first arranging the folded blank 17 in the box body, as above explained. The neckwear will then be displayed in the box body, as illustrated in Fig. l, for attracting the attention of prospective buyers when exhibited on a counter, show case or elsewhere for sale.
In the foregoing description, T have embodied the preferred form of my invention, but I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself thereto, as T am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, therefore, I reserve to myself the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope thereof.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination with an approximately rectan ular box body having an open top, of a substantially rectangular removable board in flatspaced position in the body above its bottom, and a separate display card upstanding between the one end of the board and the adjacent end wall of the body, and the display cardhaving spaced wing sections folded under the board.
2. The combination with an approximate ly rectangular box body having an open top, of a substantially rectangular removable board in fiat position in the body above its bottom, said board having depending flanges disposed edgewise on the bottom of the body, and a separate display card upstanding between the'one end of the board and the adjacent end wall of the body, and the display card having spaced wing sections folded under and supporting the board.
The combination with an approximate ly rectangular box body having an open top, of a substantially rectangular removable board in flat position in the body above its bottom, said board having depending side flan es and an end flange disposed edgewise on the bottom of the body, and a separate display card upstanding between the other end of the board and the adjacent end wall of the body, and the display card having spaced wing sections folded under the board.
This specification signed and witnessed this 141- day of May A. D. 1925.
DAVID LEVIGTON.
