Description

W. WEINER DRAWERS BLOOMERS FOR WOMEN Filed July 13. 1922 JuEy 24, 1923 TI ENII'OR;
Patented July 24, 1923.
UNIIT'D TATES WILLIAM WEINER, OF PHILADELHPIA, PENNSYLVANIA DRAWERS BLOOMERS FOR WOMEN.
Application filed July 13, 1922.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILL-1AM VVEINER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a newand useful Drawers Bloomers for Women, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention comprehends a novel construction of drawers bloomers which is formed from a single piece of material which when stitched together will have but a single seam with the desired fullness at the crotch and seat portions in order that the proper fit will be obtained irrespective of the position which the body of the user assumes and without any strain'or tension being created at any point.
It further comprehends a novel construction of bloomers which is fabricated from a single sheet so that the number of seams employed will be reduced to a minimum.
Other novel features of construction and advantage will hereinafter more fully appear in the detailed description and the appended claim.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawings a typical embodiment thereof which is at present preferred by me, since this embodiment will be found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable result-s. It is, however, to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and or ganized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein show and described.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of a one piece drawers bloomer, embodying my invention, before it has been stitched together.
Figures 2 and 3 represent, respectively,
figures wearing the garment and in diflferent positions.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings.
In carrying out my present invention, I form the blank or pattern 1 from a single piece of material which is cut and formed in a novel manner. The material is cut to form the waist band portion 2 which is formed by the inwardly extending curvatures 3 and 4, respectively, which merge into the outward curvature 5 which is centrally located. 6 designates the straight down- Serial No. 574,610.
wardly inclined edges which when secured together form the front seam and which merge into the outwardly curved edges 7, which latter merge into the inwardly curved edges 8 which contribute with the circular cut 9 to form the crotch. The edges 8 merge into the downwardly and inwardly inclined edges 10 forming one portion of the leg band and these edges 10 merge into the inwardly curved edges 11 which terminate at 12.
The waist band is gathered together by an elastic band, as indicated at 13, and the leg openings are gathered together by an elastic band, as indicated at 14. In this manner, I provide the requisite fullness at the crotch, as at 15, and the requisite fullness at the back portion of the garment, as at 16.
It will be apparent that it is essential in a womans bloomers, that the central height or distance between the points lettered 5 and 9 in Figure 1, be substantially about the same as the combined length of the front seam edge and crotch edge, as the parts lettered 6 and 8 respectively, for the reason this character, that the elastic leg hands, when the bloomers are completed, should be of such length as to encircle the wearers limbs at a point a few inches above the knees, as will be understood from Figures 2 and 3, and by proportioning the above mentioned portions of the blank, seen in Figure 1 substantially as above stated, I am able to effect the desired result, in the finished garment.
When the seam is formed by stitching together the juxtaposed edges, it will be apparent that a waist portion and a leg portion is formed and that the proper fullness and fit is provided so that the garment will be comfortable and satisfactory in whatever the position may be which the wearer assumes. The front seam formed by securing together the edges 6 will be straight in order to form a straight front and the requisite depth and fullness will be provided at the crotch and at the seat portion of the wherein it has been proposed to make close fitting trousers for children from a one piece blank having pocket openings at the waist line and atriangular crotch opening.
My present invention is differentiated from the patent aforesaid, since I make my waist line continuous and entirely dispense with the pocket openings a and in addition, I make the crotch openings 9 concave or semicircular instead of triangular, these changes in the blank being essential in constructing a womans bloomers of the character described, since it is imperative that a straight front be formed and excessive fullness be provided at the crotch or seat portion of the garment, which is not necessary or at all desirable in close fitting childrens trousers.
My present invention is therefore differentiated from the patent aforesaid and to the construction of the prior art, I herein make no claim.
It will now be apparent that I have de vised a new and useful drawers bloomers for women which embodies the features of ferred embodiment thereof, which will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that this embodiment is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is:
A womans bloomers, comprising a blank of a single piece of material having an up-.
per unbroken waistband edge composed of the central convex portion 5 and the outer uninterrupted concave portions 3 and 4, from the-outer ends of which lead the downwardly diverging front seam edges 6, terminating in the outwardly curved portions 7 from which lead the slightly concaved outwardlydiverging crotch seam edges 8, of substantially the same length as said edges 6, from which edges 8 leadthe downwardly converging leg band seam edges 10, terminating in the slightly concaved portions 11 having the deeply concaved semicircular crotch seam edge 9, the central height of said blank between the top of said waist band and the inner portion of said crotch seam edge being substantially the same as the combined length of the edges 6 and 8, whereby a bloomers is produced having a straight front and the requisite depth and fullness at the crotch and seat portions, and the leg bands are caused to encircle the wearers limbs at points above the knees.
