UNITED [STATES I meant ALrnEnwILLIAM cnnrsm,orcnroaeaittmois., g

Application filed December 16, 1920. Serial No. 31,193. v p f described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood b reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Fig. 1 is a plan view showing my'invention applied to a music roll box and roll therein;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary elevational view showing the clamp attachedto the side of the box;
Fig. t shows a modified form of the device applied to a box and roll shown in crosssection; and
Fig. 5 shows a blank from which the spring clamp is formed.
My invention is shown in connection with a case or container 10 in the form of a music roll box, containing a music roll 11, the outer part or flap 12 of which is pressed upon by the resilient clamp member .13, retaining the roll in position and preventing the same from unrolling.
The preferred form of clamp member consists of a resilient blank of any suitable material, such as brass, and comprises a body portion and an arm 14 extending-laterally from one end thereof, bent or curved upon itself toward said ,body portion, as at 15, near the points of connection with said body portion. Cleats 16 are provided at the corners of the body portion which are bent at rightangles therefrom and pass through a side wall of the container, and may be bent over on the outside of the wall of said container if desired.
In Figs. 1 and 2 the clamping member is shown applied to one side of the music box, in full lines, but the clamp may be used on ing from the spirit of the invention;
PATENT} l the otlier sicle,-as shown 'in d-otted' lines in a T said figures, or a clamp both sides of thefbox.
Fig. l illustratesa .inodified "for m in which the body portion 13 is providedwith may beplace'd on j two arms 14 extending at right angles from the two ends of said portion, passing up along the sides of the box, and being bent 1 l' or curved back upon themselves (near their middle portions, as at 15. Cleats16 ex tend from the bodyportion and pass through the bottom of the box instead of the side, as
in the preferred form.
Although my invention has been illus tra-tedin connection with a music roll box and roll, the resilient clamp may be used in connection with any form of roll container or case, and in view of its resilient arm or} arms bearing against the roll is adapted to retain said roll in position and prevent un rolling thereof.
lVhile I have illustrated and described the i preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is: capable of variation and modification without depart- I therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the constructionset forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope? of the appended claims.
.Havingdescribed my invention, what I 2. A member comprising a body. portion,
a resilient arm extending from and bent back toward said body portion, and cleats extending from said body portion by means of which said member-is mountable in a 7 case with said body portion engaging the wall of said case, said arm being adapted to bear resiliently against a roll in said case and prevents said roll from unrolling,-substantially as described.
3. A member provided with a body poI- tion, a plurality of resilient arms extending at right anglesfrom said bodv ortioneach of; said arms" being bent"?v upon itselfr towards said body portion, said member be ing mountable in a case toengage the inner Wall thereof and capable of preventing a r011 from unrollingin said ease bybearing between said Walls and roll, substantially as described.
4. The oombinationwith a music r011 ease, ofa rol-l retainingdevice comprisingwa-me tall-i0 strap; a resilientarmextending front each end of and bent back. toward said strap,
said arms being adapted-to bearsresiliently betweenthe sides of said ease andamuksm rolli in' said 'oase to prevent said roll from unrolhng, and means extending from eachend of said strap for detachably mounting said devicein-said case; substantially as de; 7
scribed" In testimony whereof I have 'signediny name to .thisispecifioation in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
