A CORPORTEON Oli' NEFF YORK.
DESPENSNG CABINET.
Application. filed January 23, 1922. Serial No. 531,211.
To aZZ whom t may concern Be it known, that l, Moens ll/. MARCUSE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Cabinets, of which the following is a specihcation. f
This invention relates to dispensing cabinets of that class-used for delivering interleaved sheets and particularly to an attachment or insert which can be readily attached to existing cabinets to facilitate the withdrawal of the sheets by reducing friction.
A large number of this general type of cabinets which are now in use are not provided with any friction reducing means, the interleaved sheets being withdrawn through a dispensing opening usually formed in the bottom of the container. l/Vhen, therefore, the cabinet has a considerable supply of towels therein, the pressure exerted by the combined weight of the towels makes the withdrawal of the towels difficult and ofttimes the towels are thereby torn or mutilated during withdrawal.
It is therefore the primary object of my invention to provide a separate arrangement in the form of an attachment which may be quickly and conveniently applied to the types of dispensingcabinets now universally employed and which will make these cabinets more efficient by reason of the elimination, or at least, a considerable reduction, in the friction occasioned when a sheet is withdrawn.
ln carrying out my invention, l provide in general a pair of rollers journalled in suitable supports, which supports carry means for securingr them to the dispensing cabinet at the dispensing 'opening thereof. The sheets when withdrawn are adapted to pass over one or the other of the rollers and the supply of towels to be partially supported by the rollers thereby also facilitating the with* drawal of a single towel.
Various other advantages and features of construction of my invention as well as the manner of using the saine will be more completely described in the accompanying specification and illustrated in the c rawings in which:
Fig. l is a fragmentary section of a cabinet equipped with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 2 illustrating this modified form,
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of this modified form of attachment removed from the cabinet, g
F ig. 7 is a View similar to Fig. l of still another modified form of construction,
Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. 2 of this second modification, 1
Fig. 9 is fragmentary separated perspective view of this second modified form `of attachment,
Fig. l0 is a view similar to Fig. l of an other modified form of construction, and
F ig. ll is a perspective view of this modified form of attachment. y
Referring' now more particularly to Figs. l to 3, the first form of my improved invention will be described. In these figures the reference character l() indicates a dispensing cabinet in the formv of a box-shaped casing, this being representative of the types cabinets now in use, the bottom thereof being provided with a longitudinal delivery opening l1 through which the individual towels of, a stack of interleaved towels l2 are withdrawn. I
Referring now particularly to Fig. 3,v it will be seen that my improved attachment consists of a pair of plate-like supporting members 13 suitably apertured to receive the shafts l-l of a pair of rollers 'l5 thereby providing a mounting or support for these rollers enabling them to be freely rotated. As illustrated clearly in Figs. l and 3, these rollers are separated a distance corresponding to the width of the delivery opening` 1l.. Fach supporting plate 13 has secured thereto by soldering or otherwise, fastening member i6, here shown in the form of a wire.
ln applying my improved `taclnnern the same is placed on the bott-cin of .ie cabinet l0 with the rollers disposed araileL with the edges of the delivery opening and with the free ends 17 of the attaching members pro jecting downwardly through the delivery opening. The ends of these wire atiuehing members are then bent upwardly to clinch the attachment in place. rlhis is clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3.
1n Figs. 4 to 6 thevend plates 13 of the attachment are shown as each provided with a tongue 18 which is adapted to be inserted downwardly through the delivery opening 11 and bent upwardly around the ends of the cabinet 10 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 6. This is suflicient to hold the attachment firmly in place in its position immediately above the delivery opening. 1n every other respect this form of my invention is the same as the form illustrated in Fig. 3 and therefore like numerals refer to like parts.
Referring now more particularlyito Figs. 7 to 9 inclusive the third form of my invention will be described. 1n this form there is provided a pair of end plates 19 each provided with a tongue 2O similar to the form illustrated in Figs. d to 6, which is adapted to be bent around the vend of the cabinet. Associated with each end plate 19 is a plate 21 adapted to rock about a pin 22 by which it is pivotally connected to the end plate 19. Mounted upon the plate 21 are a pair of rollers 23 which as in the other forms are adapted to freely revolve.
1n using the form of my invention just described the roller carryingplates 21 are adapted to be rocked as the towels are withdrawn, the towel being withdrawn passing over one roller while the other roller is rocked to a raised position to lift the stack of towels and relieve somewhat the pressure imposed on the towel being withdrawn.
Referring now to Figs. 10 and 11, the fourth form of my invention will be described. 1n this form l employ ajpair of roller carrying plates 2a having extended ends 25 which are of suiiicient length to fit snugly against the side walls of the cabinet 10. Rollers 26 are mounted on these plates so as to rotate freely and in every other respect this form of my invention functions similarly to the forms illustrated in Figs. 1 to G. By forming the roller carrying plates Q4 with extended ends 25, retaining means is provided and the necessity for separate attaching means is eliminated as4 the apparatus will be held properly in place with-in the cabinet by reason of its size, the roller carrying plates 2st being spaced longitudinally by the rollers 2G so as to dispose these plates immediately adjacent the end walls of the cabinet 10.`
1n the first two and last form of my invention it is obvious that the towel being withdrawn passes over one or the other of the set of rollers associated with the delivery opening and because the rollers are freely revoluble the friction is reduced and the withdrawal of the towel facilitated. Furthermore, the pair of rollers associated with each delivery .opening support the raeaseo stack of towels spaced from the delivery opening, also facilitating the withdrawal of a towel. From the foregoing it will be obvious that 1 have provided an attachment which may be efficiently used in connection with the dispensing cabinets now already in use and one which furthermore may be conveniently and quickly put in place. The attac-hing means in the form of clincher wires in the front form and tongues in the second and third forms provide ample means for holding the attachment in place immediately above the delivery opening of the cabinet. Likewise the attaching means in the form of the extended ends of the plates 2li in the last form of my invention provides means for conveniently retaining the attachment in place above the delivery opening of the cabinet.
While I have illustrated several embodiments of my invention, 1 do not wish to be unnecessarily limitedto these specific constructions but reserve the right to make such changes in the form thereof as may come within the purview of the accompanying claims.
Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim is:
1. An arrangement for use in combination with a dispensing cabinet provided with a delivery slot comprising a pair of spaced rollers, means for mounting said roll'-l erg and disengageable means for rotatably securing said arrangement to said cabinet adjacent said delivery slot.

8. A device for use in connection with a dispensing cabinet provided with a delivery slot, said device comprising a pair of spaced plates, a pair of spaced parallel rollers, means for mounting said rollers on said plates, said device being adapted to be positioned within said cabinet immediately over said delivery slot and means carried by said plates projecting through said delivery slot and adapted to be bent back against said cabinet for securing said device in place.
d. An arrangement of the cla-ss described for use in combination with a dispensing cabinet provided with a delivery opening, said arrangement comprising a pair of spaced supporting plates, a pair of spaced parallel rollers mounted on said supporting plates, lips formed integrally on said plates, said arrangement being adapted to be placed Within said cabinet over said delivery opening with said lips projecting through said opening and secured in place by bending said lips upwardly against said cabinet.
5. An arrangement of the class described for use in combination with a dispensing cabinet provided with a delivery slot, said arrangement comprising a pair of plates, a pair of roller supporting plates pivotally secured to said first mentioned plates, a pair of spaced parallel rollers mounted on said roller supporting plates and means carried by said rst mentioned plates and adapted to project through said delivery slot for supporting said 'arrangement Within said cabinet immediately over said delivery slot.
6. An arrangement for use in combination With a dispensing cabinet provided with a delivery slot comprising a separate unit adapted to be placed Within said cabinet, said unit comprising a pair of spaced rollers, means for mounting said rollers an'l means for retaining said unit in place Within said cabinet adjacent sai-d delivery slot.
