PAPER-ROLL FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 15, 1919.
Application filed October 12, 1917. Serial No. 196,337.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR D. HOSFELDT, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the city of Portland, county of Multnomah, State of Oregon, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Paper-Roll Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wall fixtures, such as adapted for rotatably supporting a roll of toiletpaper, or paper towels. My invention has for its object the providing of a simple, inexpensive device for said purpose. Furthermore, to induce by my fixture the more economical use of paper by preventing the wasteful tearing ofl of longer strips than to be used; this result being attained by requiring each sheet to be torn off separately. Furthermore, my invention has for its purpose the providing of a fixture which is adjustable to rolls of varying length.
I attain these objects, and incidental fea-' tures, in the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, of which:
Figure 1 represents my fixture as appearing when supporting a roll of paper, the end of which is positioned as required for tearing off Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my fixture with parts broken away and other parts shown in section; and
Figs. 3 to 8 inclusive illustrate details of construction hereinafter fully described.
My invention comprises a U-shaped bracket (4, the sides a of which is made with a hole to receive one end of a shaft b, rotatably supported by the bracket; and the side a of the latter is provided with a slot 00, in which to removably insert the related end of the shaft 6. To hold the latter against longitudinal movement the end 6 is provided with a peripheral groove in which bears a keeper 0 pivoted on a pin cl. Said keeper is, for convenience, made with a lip, or flange, 0 so as to facilitate the lifting thereof by the finger, and a spring-controlled latch 6 having a locking pin 0 (see Fig. 7) holds the keeper 0 in place so as to prevent its accidental lifting. The keeper is made with a lip at its free end. as shown, so as to facilitate the pulling of it outward to pull out the pin 6'. The shaft 1) is per mitted to rotate only in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1. This result is conveniently accomplished as shown in to engage with one of the notches j provided 7 in the related end of the shaft 1), as shown in Fig; 2. That portion of the shaft 6 lying between its ends is preferably made square so as to non'rotatably carry the cone sections 70,10 which are adapted to bear in the hollow core of the roll of paper and thus clamp and rigidly hold the latter. The cone section is is removable and longitudinally adjustable on the shaft Z), and to this end is provided with a keeper Z, adapted to be engaged with I one of the notches j of the shaft 6, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4.
The reel sides h, h carry radially dis-' posed cutter-bars m, the upper face of which is serrated or otherwise adapted (as at m) to form an edge upon which to tear off the end of the paper strip. For the purpose of reducing the cost of metal, and also adding neatness to the appearance of my device, I prefer to support the cutter-bars m on radially disposed arms n, integral with the reel sides h, it. The right ends of the cutter bars at are removably inserted for removing the conesection is, as required to remove the core of the used roll of paper and insert a new roll. 0 represents the roll of paper. The free end of the roll of paper 70 must be arranged so as to overlie'the cutter bar proj ecting at the front of my fixture, as shown in Fig. 1. And since the reel can rotate only in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1, by pulling on the strip end pthe same "is readily detached from" the roll. The end of the strip of the roll from which the piece means for rigidly holding a roll of paper between the reel sides.
2. A device of the character described comprising a bracket, a reel supported thereby and'rotatable in one direction only, one side of the reel being adjustable and removable, cutter bars radially disposed on the reel sides, and means for rigidly holding a comprising a bracket, a reel supported thereby and rotatable in one direction only, one side of the reel. being removable, cutter bars radially disposed on-the reel sides, opposed cone sections on said shaft one thereof being removable, and means for securing such cone adjustably in place on the shaft.
A device of the character described comprising a bracket, a reel supported thereby and rotatable in one direction only, one side of the reel being adjustable and removable, cutter bars radially disposed on the reel sides, opposed cone sections on said shaft one thereof being removable, and means for securing such cone adjustably in place on the shaft.
6. A device of the character described comprising a bracket, a shaft rotatably supported thereby, means for limiting the rotation of the shaft to one direction, means for holding the shaft against longitudinal movement in its brackets, reel-sides nonrotatably mounted onthe shaft, one of such sides being removable, cutter, bars, radially disposed on the reel-sides, and means for rigidly holding a roll of paper between said reel-sides.
7. A device of the character described comprising a bracket, a shaft rotatably supported thereby, means for limiting the rotation of the shaft to one direction, means for holding the shaft against longitudinal movement in its bracket, reel sides non-rotatably mounted on the shaft, one of such sides being removable and also being longitudinally adjustable on the shaft, cutter bars'radiallydisposed on the reel sides, and means for rigidly holding a roll of paper between said reel sides.
8. A device of the character described comprising a bracket, a shaft rotatably supported thereby, means for limiting the rotation of the shaft to one direction, means for holding the shaft against longitudinal movement in its brackets, reel sides nonrotatably mounted on the shaft, one of such sides being removable, cutter bars radially disposed on the reel sides, and opposed cone sections on said shaft one thereof being removable.
9. A device of the character described comprising a bracket, a shaft rotatably supported thereby, means for limiting the rot-ation of the shaft to one direction, means for holding the shaft against longitudinal movement in its brackets, reel sides non-rotatably mounted on the shaft, one of'such sides being removable, cutter bars radially disposed on the reel sides, opposed cone sections on said shaft one thereof being removable, and
means for securing such cone in place on the shaft.
10. A device of the character described comprising a bracket, a shaft rotatably supported thereby, means for limiting the rotation of the shaft to one direction, means for holding the, shaft against longitudinal movement in its brackets, reel sides nonrotatably mounted on the shaft one of such sides being removable, cutter bars radially disposed on the reel sides, opposed cone sections on said shaft one thereof being. removable, and means for securing such cone adjustably in place on the shaft.
11. In a device of the character described, the combination of a supporting bracket, a reel for carrying a paper roll, such reel rotatable in one direction only, and a cutter bar carried by'the reel, such bar arranged parallel to the axis of rotation of the'latter.
