RECEPTACLE FOR HOLDING CIGABETTES.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM D. OKANE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles for Holding Cigarettes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to receptacles and in particular to receptacles for holding cigarettes and the like in vehicles.
It is the object of my invention to provide a receptacle for cigarettes. It is a further object to locate this receptacle primarily on an automobile and the like and in particular on the dash board thereof.
It is my object to provide a receptacle in which the cigarettes may be deposited to permit of the ready extraction of each cigarette and to maintain the cigarettes in a position that they may not be damaged or injured by the walls of the receptacle or one another.
It is a further object to provide a receptacle which may be readily installed, and may be manufactured, if desired, out of a single piece of material.
. It is an additional object to provide a receptacle in which an entire package of cigarettes may be introduced so that the entire group in the package may be located in my receptacle direct from the package without handling.
It is also my object to provide means for the exit of any collection of small particles of tobacco, foreign material, etc., without permitting the exit of any cigarettes except as desired by the operator.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my receptacle installed on the dash board of an automobile.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 4, showing cigarettes just being introduced.
Fig. 3 is a section showing the cigarettes in position. This section is taken on a line 33 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 4 is a front elevation of my receptacle with a portion of cigarettes in position.
It will be understood that in connection with my receptacle that it is necessary to have a supporting surface for the cigarettes, and sufiicient area for the introduction of Application filed August 11, 1922. Serial No. 581,089. r
the package to discharge the cigarettes,.an exit opening for the exit of any fine particles which have collected in the bottom of the receptacle and sufficient space in the opening into the receptacle to allow ready access of the fingers of the operator to the cigarettes.
Referring to the drawings in detail:
1 is a dash board on which is mounted the receptacle which has a frame 2 bordering the opening in the dash board. 7
The bolts 3 connect the receptacle to the dash board. The receptacle is provided with spaces 4 and 5. The front wall 6 is at an angle to the vertical and it is upon this wall that the cigarettes rest but with their upper ends opposite the receptacle opening 7. The bottom is designated 8 and has one or more openings 9 therein for exit of small particles of tobacco and the like.
The rear wall is composed of two portions, a guiding portion 10 constituting the upper half, and a deflecting portion 11 constituting the lower half. 10 guides the package of cigarettes into position while 11 defleets them downwardly to the bottom 8. It will be observed that the opening 7 provides sufficient space for the introduction of the fingers of the operator to grasp the cigarettes.
In position the package 12 has one end at 13 torn off and that end is introduced into the opening 7 in order to deposit the cigarettes, whereupon the package is withdrawn in its empty state and discarded leaving the cigarettes in the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4:. i
It will be understood that I have illus trated the preferred form of my invention, but that I comprehend within it suitable modifications to adapt it to varying conditions.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A new article of manufacture consisting of a receptacle having an entrance and exit opening and supporting wall to present cigarettes with their ends adjacent to said opening in a predetermined position, and a rear guiding and deflecting wall to insure the placing of cigarettes in proper position, said opening being sufficiently large for the introduction of a package of cigarettes thereof the operator for the extraction of cigarettestherefrom. I
2. A new article of manufacture consisting of a receptacle having an entrance and exit opening and supportingwall to present cigarettes With their ends adjacent to said opening in a predetermined position, and a" rear guiding and deflecting wall to insure the placing of cigarettes in proper position, said opening being sufliciently large for the introduction of a package of cigarettes therethrough and the introduction of the fingers of the operator for the extraction of cigarettes therefrom, and exit openings in the bottom of the receptacle permitting of the exit of the accumulated particles therein.
' 3. In combination in a receptacle of a frame having an entrance and exit opening therein, means on said frame for supporting a receptacle and (for attaching the frame and receptacle to a dash boa-rd, a downwardly,
ture.
diagonally disposed cigarette supporting Wall and a bottom arranged at an acute angle thereto, wherebyfithe cigarettes in successive layers may have theiriupper ends in staggered relation. 7
d. In combination in a receptacle of a frame having an entrance and exit opening therein, Ineansonsaid frame for supporting a receptacle and for attaching the frame and receptacle to a dash board, a down- Wardly, diagonally disposed cigarette supporting Wall anda bottomarranged at an acute angle thereto, wherebytjhe cigarettes in successive layers may have their upper ends instaggered relation, said Wal-lsand a. back Wall composed of'a guiding: portion and a reflecting portion at an angle nto one --another.
In testimony'whereof, I my signa- WILLIAM D. OKANEf
