msrnusrive DEVICE.
Application filed October 4, 1921. Serial No. 505A20.
T0 ail whom 232 may concern: i
I lie it known thatl, Lnvnun'r'r TIFFANY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of lVinsted, in the county of Litchiield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Dispensing Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription. f
idy invention relates to a dispensing de. vice and aims to more particularly provide a device suitable for use in connection with pins and paper clips. v
It is a well appreciated fact that numerous dispensing devices have been placed upon. the market which were suitable for use in connection with paper clips and pins. These devices have for the most part, been unsightly, and further have not presented the elements to be dispensed in such a manner that the same will be readily accessible. With this in mind my present invention aims to provide a dispensing device particularly intended for use in the connection specified, but not necessarily limited to this adaptation, and by means of which primarily, an extremely neat appearing article will be produced which will present the elements to be dispensed in such a manner that the same are readily accessible.
' A further object of this invention is the construction of a device of the character stated which may be placed upon the man ket at an extremely nominal figure, and
which will include structure allowing of a great amount of the elements to be dispensed being stored within the same, so that any di'lliculty on this score will be precluded.
Still further objects of this invention will appear in the annexed specification and drawings, which latter illustrate one practical embodiment of the same, and in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device and showing the same in. use. c
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken longitudinally and centrally of the device of Fig. 1; and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken along the line 33 of Figure 2.
In these views it will be seen that the reference numeral 5 indicates the body of a receptacle of any approved material and shape which is provided with a lid 6 of awidth less than that of its body so that the portions 7 of the same adjacent its side edges extend beyond the lid.
As has been shown in Figure 3 the side walls of the receptacle 5 are suj iplementcd by a pair of secondary side walls 8, which extend parallel to and spaced from the inner face of the outer side walls of this receptaole, it (being also noted that the upper edges of these secondary side walls preferably terminate in a plane below that into which the upper edges of the main side walls will extend. Thus the interior space 9 ispresented which is suitable for thereception and storingof a quantity of pins 10 or other elements which are to be dispensed, these pins being arranged in the usual manner upon strips 11 of any suitable material.
Further the grooves or spaces existing between the side walls of the receptacle 5, and the secondary walls 8 thereof have their base portions raised 'by inserting suitable filler strips 12 therein. Thus it will be obvious that two strips'or pins or other ele ments to be dispensed may be removed from within the space 9 and may be inserted between the side walls of the receptacle and the secondary walls thereof as in Figure 3. When the parts are thus disposed the lid 6 may be closed and these. strips of elements will be readily available as has been shown in the figures, and upon either of the strips being exhausted, it will be noted that additional strips may be removed from within the space 9 by opening the lid 6 and these additional strips may be disposed inthe manner aforestated.
With respect to this latter feature it is to be noted that by virtue of the fact that the walls 8 terminate at a point below the up per edges of the outer walls of the receptacle, that the lid 6 has its upper face lying in substantially the same plane as the upper edges of the outer walls, and thus it will be understood that all of the objects set forth in the preamble of this specification are accomplished, and it will further be understood that numerous modifications of structure might readily be resorted to without in the least departing from the scope of my claims, which are 1. As anarticle of manufacture, a dispensing device presenting a body, a lid associated with Said body, said lid being of a width less than the width of said body whereby the portions of the latter adjacent its side edges extend beyond said lid, and means adjacent said side edges providing grooves.
2. As anarticle of manufacture,"a dispensing device presenting a body,a lid associated with said body, said lid being of a width less than the width of said body whereby the portions of the latter adjacent its side edges extend beyond the lid, means adjacent said side edges providing grooves of a depth less than the depth of said rcceptacle.
3. As an article of manufacture, a device includinga receptacle having side walls and secondary walls within said receptacle and spaced from and extending parallel to said first nained side walls, and a lid secured to said receptacle and being of a width less than the distance between theside walls of the same. a
4:. As an article of manufacture, a device including a receptacle having side walls and secondary walls within said receptacle, and spaced from and extending parallel to said first named side Walls, a lid secured to said receptacle and being; of a width less than the distance between the side walls of the same, whereby to render the grooves exists ingbetween said side walls and secondarv walls available when said lid is in closed position and filler strips positioned within the face of said grooves.
5. As an article of manufacture, a dispensing device including a receptacle having side walls, secondary walls within said receptacle and extending parallel to and in spaced relationship to said side walls, said secondary walls terminating in a plane lower than that of said side walls, and a lid cured to said receptacle, and being of a, width less than the space existing between said side walls, said lid when in closed position being adapted to rest upon the upper edges of the said secondary walls.
