CIGARETTE CASE Filed May 12, 1937 Patented Mar. 29, 1938 CIGARETTE CASE George Zint, Wapakoneta, Ohio Application May 12, 1937, Serial No. 142,256
UNITED STATES PATENT oFFi-CQ- 1 4 Claims.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, description being accomplished by reference to the accompanying drawlng.
Fig, 1 is a perspective view showing the front of the case, the cover being open.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3 3 of Fig. l.
Figs. 4 and 5 are vertical sectional views at right angles to each other, as indicated by lines 4-4 and 5-5 of Fig. 3.
One specific form of the invention has been shown in the drawing, formed from metal, but 20 it is to be understood that numerous variations may be made within the scope of the invention as claimed, and that any preferred metallic or non-metallic material may be used in the manufacture of the device.
For purposes of description, the device will be considered as standing upright, for instance, upon a table or the like, but it is to be understood that it is not essential that the device always occupy a vertical position. Moreover, it 30 may be manufactured in a relatively small size for pocket use and in larger sizes for use elsewhere.
The numeral 6 denotes a one-piece continuous vertical wall and 'l has reference to a horizontal 35 plate surrounded by said wall and secured thereto. The plate 1 is located between the upper and lower edges of the wall 6 whereby the upper portion of said wall constitutes one continuous upwardly projecting iiange 8, and the lower por- 40 tion of said wall forms a continuous downwardly projecting ange 9. Vertical tubes Ill are soldered or otherwise secured to each other as denoted at II, the lower ends of said tubes resting upon and being closed by the plate 1, and being 45 secured within the connes of the upwardly projecting iiange 8. The plate 'l is formed with openings I2 communicating with the tubes IE), said openings slidably receiving the downwardly projecting operating stems I3 of a plurality of 50 cigarette ejecting plungers I4, the downwardly projecting stems being all disposed within the connes of the downwardly projecting ilange 9 which therefore constitutes a guard preventing accidental striking of or pushing of said stems. A suitable cover I5 is provided for the upper (Cl. G-41) ends of the tubes I0, said cover being hinged at I6 to a strip I1 which extends transversely across and is secured to a number of said tubes Ill, at
the rear of the case. The front of the cover I5 isv preferably provided with a downwardly projecting flange I8 having a stamped socket IQ to receive an outwardly stamped detent 2B on one of the tubes Il), for normally holding the cover in closed position.
The cigarettes are loosely received in the tubes IIJ and it will be seen that the stems I3 of the plungers I4 may readily be pushed to eject any desired number of the cigarettes in position for total withdrawal from the case, when the cover I5 is opened. The lower ends of the stems I3 are slightly enlarged to prevent them from passing through the openings I2 when the case is inverted.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction disclosed together with its advantages and possibilities, will be readily understood without requiring more explanation, attention however, being again invited to the possibility of making variations and using diierent materials within the scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
l. A cigarette case having a plurality of cigarette-receiving tubes secured side-by-side and each open at one end, lxed closing means for the other end of each of said tubes, said closing means having apertures coaxial with said tubes, cigarette-ejecting plungers slidable in said other ends of said tubes and having stems passing slidably through said apertures, said stems projecting longitudinally from the tubes to be selectively pushed with one finger, and a removable closure for the open ends of said tubes.
2. A cigarette case comprising a continuous wall, a plate surrounded by said wall and secured at its edge thereto, said Wall projecting from said plate to provide a continuous guard ange, a
plurality of cigarette-howlingv tubes closed at one posed within the connes of said other continuous ange.
4. A cigarette case having a plurality of cigarette-receiving tubes disposed side-by-side, said tubes being open at one end, cigarette-ejecting plungers slidable in the other ends of said tubes and projecting longitudinally therefrom to be finger-actuated, a removable closure for the open ends of said tubes, and a, continuous guard secured to said tubes and projecting longitudinally therefrom around the projecting portions of the entire group of plungers.
