SMOKERS STAND- Application filed August 23,1926. Serial No. 131,044.
This invention relates to improvements in smokers stand of the'class having a base with a hollow tube connecting the to a tray for the deposit of cigar and cigarette ashes, butts, and other waste, as burnt matches, etc.
The object of the present invention is to provide more convenient means for emptyin and cleaning the stand. One of the 1 us to that end is the provision of a base with a hinged cover member on which is a taper hollow tube. Another means to attain that object provides for a removable waste receptacle in the of the stand. Other objects ill appear to those skilled in the art as the description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention shown in the accompanying drawing, in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout, but I am aware that modiiiactions may be made in the construction shown.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete stand.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the stand showing the hinge.
F igure 8 is a plan of the stand.
Figure at is an enlarged view of the base, the hinged cover, and part of the tube, in section, showing the removable waste re- (-eptacle therein.
Figure is a detached view of the rcmo able waste receptacle.
The numeral 3 represents the to which a cover is attached by a hinge and is held in the closed position by the pin t which is fixed to a spring 5 attached to the base by rivets or other means. The pin it is adapted to snap into a hole 6 in the cover.
011 the inside of the base is a lining 7 of sheet metal spaced from the bottom and hold at the edges by the seam 8. The space thus formed is adapted to be filled with some heavy material like lead 9 to obtain the required ballast. I
The base is partly spherical in form in this instance, and has the flat central portion 10, grooves 11, and the rounded up sides 12. The flat portion extends from A to B. The
large end of a taper tube 16 fixed in a central opening therein.
The tube is long enough to make a con- -venient smokers stand, and has the'trav l7 fixed on the upper end. The tray has a flat place 18 and has an opening in the center, opening into'the tube. A match box holder ot well known type is fixed on the tray.
The taper tube may be of any shape in cross section, a hexagon is shown, but a round, square,.oval or other shape may be used. i
Fitting into the base and conforming to the shape of the bottom thereof is a waste receptacle 20 which is adapted to be taken out and emptied wheniilled. The receptacle has the turned over rim 21. p
I In use, ashes, cigar stubs, etc, are dropped into the tray where it falls down the tube to the waste'receptacle. To remove the receptacle the pin t is pressed in, to release the cover which is tilted back on the hinge, the
waste receptacle taken out, emptied, and
cleaned. The interior of the base, cover, and tube can be more readily cleaned by means of this invention.
The stand is preferably made of sheet metal but may be made of other material.
lVhat I claim is as follows, but various modifications may be made in the construc- .tion shown inthe drawings and above par ticularly described form within the scope of the claims. I
A smokers stand. of the class described comprising a partly spherical base, a partly spherical cover hinged to open radially on said base, a taper tube fixed to said cover, a
tray on said tube, and a waste receptacle in said base adapted to extend above the meeting line of said base and said cover In testimony whereof I have hereunto set JOSEPH W. SAVERY.
