lDEPOSIT AND COLLECTION RECEPTACLE.
'A Application filed December 9, 1921.
To all w hom z' 'may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILroRD W. WILKIN- soN, a citizen of the United States residing at Cleveland, in the county of uyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Deposit and Collection Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to deposit and collection receptacles, 'the primary object of 'l0 the invention being to provide a receptacle including compartments, one of the co1npartments being provided for containing a pad of paper or the like, for the convenience of persons desirous of leaving a note, which may be deposited in the other compartment of the receptacle.
Another object of the invention is to provide means within the receiving compartment for elevating the note to a position directly behind the sight opening of the receptacle to enable a person to view the interior thereof.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details .of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:-
Figure 1 is an eleva-tional View of the receptacle disclosing the same as applied to a supporting surface.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the same.
Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the receptacle; and
Figure 4 is a top plan view thereof.
Referring .to the drawing in detail, a receptacle is shown as indicating a body portion which is formed with a vertical partition 5 dividing the same into al forward compartment 6 and a rear compartment 7, the forward compartment being especially designed for receiving a pad of paper or the like.
The rear compartment 7 is designed to receive a sheet of paper which has been Serial No. 521,182.
' written on and torn from the pad of paper which is contained in the forward compartment 6.
As shown, the construction of the body is such that the front wall of the rear compartment extends to a position above the upper edge of the front compartment, the front wall being provided with a sight opening 8, whereby the contents of the receiving compartment may bev viewed by a person.
The forward compartment 6 is also formed with a sight opening indicated at 9, whereby a person may view the pad supported therein to permit the pad to be removed with facility. In o-rder that the note or letter written on a sheet of the pad, and held in the compartment will be held to a position directly behind the sight opening 8, rests 10 are provided, which are formed integral with the bottom wall of the receptacle, it being obvious that a sheet of paper if dropped into the rear compartment 7 the upper edge thereof will fall behind the sight opening.
Formed integral with one of the side walls of the receptacle is a bar 11 adapted to be fitted under the staple 12, which may be positioned in the supporting surface of the receptacle. At the opposite side of the receptacle is a tongue 13 which is formed with an elongated opening 141to receive the staple 15, which is also secured to the supporting surface, the staple 15 being adapted tore- 85 ceive a padlock or the like, whereby the receptacle may be locked to the supporting surface to prevent unauthorized persons from removing the same.
The upper portion of the forward compartment is open as indica-ted at 16, to permit the pad of paper to be easily inserted and removed from its compartment. An opening 17 is formed in the top wall of the rear compartment 7, to permit of the insertion and remo-val of a sheet of paper.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A deposit and collection receptacle including a vertical partitioning wall for dividing the same into a forward compartment and a rear compartment, the rear compartment extending to a plane above the upper wall of the forward compartment and having an opening in its top and a sigh-t opening in the front above the opening of the forwand compartment and supporting means within the rear compartment tosupport an article in a position above the for ward compartment, the forward Compartment having a sight opening in its front face and being open at the top and means for securing the receptacle to a supportingl means.
In testimony that I claim 'the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
l WILFORD WILKINSON.
