Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS KYSER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOULDER-PADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,661, dated December 16, 1873; application filed November 26, 1873. 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS KYSER, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Attachment to Garments for Imparting Proper Shape to the Human Shoulders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear and exact description of the nature thereof, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to fully understand, make, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device embodyin g my invention. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is an end view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
This invention consists in an attachment to garments for the purpose of imparting full or proper form to shoulders that are low, or otherwise improperly shaped.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a frame, which is constructed of gauze or wire work, whalebone, hard rubber, or other light and sufficiently strong material, and, in plan view, is somewhat of a conical or flaring form, of which the widest side or end is shown at B. Beneath the frame, to the sides a a thereof, there are secured two or more bands or strips, 0, which extend transversely, and a space, D, is left between the bands and frame.
The operation is as follows: The frame A is to be secured by hooks and eyes, pins, or other fastenings, to the inside of the shoulder portion of the coat, or outside of the shirt or vest, and resting on the shoulder, the narrow end or side 1) toward the neck, and the wide end or side B outwardly. In position, the device is supported, by the bands 0, on the human shoulder, whereby the frame A serves to elevate the shoulder of the coat, and the wide portion B imparts the proper shape or hang to the top of the sleeve.
By these means provision is made in the coat to correct or improve ungraceful, low, round, or other'badly-shaped shoulders, it being only necessary to bend or form the bands relatively to the defect and required elevation and contour desired for the shoulder of the coat.
In Fig. 1 the line of the human shoulder is shown at m, and that imparted to the coat at y.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the frame A, in combination with the transverse bands 0, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
LOUIS KYSER.
