shoulder-form of such novel and ALEXANDRE GREAN, OF NEW .YORK, N. Y.
SHOULDER-FORM- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 16, 1906.
Applioation filed Juno 2, 1205. Serial No. 263,469.
same parts throughout the several views of To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALEXANDRE M. GREAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the .borough of Manhattan, city; county, and
State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shoulder Forms, adapted to be used in garments for either the male or female sex; and I do declare the. following to be a clear and exactdescri ti'on of the nature thereof, so that those skille in the art to which my invention applies may make use and fully understand the same, reference being had to the accom anying drawings, which are art of this specification, and are fully described, and defined specifically in the claims. This invention relates to wearing-apparel, and pertains es ecially to shoulder-forms.
The object o the invention is to provide a eculiar shape and construction as to fit the s oulder of a person and follow the lines back, and front of the shoulder fectly than is shoulder-forms.
A further object of the invention is to ro vide a shoulder-form one part of whic is adapted to follow the lines of the shoulder of a person closely and the other part of which is arran ed to remedy defects in the shoulder and to hold the shoulder of a garment in shapely position.
With these and various other objects, ad-
more perpossible with the ordinary vantages, and improved results in view the invention consists of a shoulder-form having sides which curve inwardly, a top shaped into a compound curve, and a deeply-arched portion tapering into a shallow-arched end, with points at the intersection of the said portion and the sides-that is, the form is sha ed or molded so that the concavity diminis es in depth from the ,outer to the inner end of the form.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view.
. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section partly broken away. Fig. 4 is a cross-section on the line a: m, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a cross-section on the line y y, Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a cross-section on the line 2 2, Fig. 2.
The same numeral-references denote the shoulder and neck at the top,
the drawings.
.The article is molded or shaped out of any suitable material, such as felt or tailors canvas, to form an outer portion or end I, deeply arched or circular-shaped in cross-section. The sides 2 curve inwardl and at the intersection of the sides and t e end 1 is formed points 3, adapted to fit the front and back of a person's shoulder. The sides 2 taper from their curvature and terminate in an inner shallow arched or ooncaved end 4. The ends 1 and 4 will be hereinafter designated as ends,, respectively. The top of the form has a compound curve, so as to resent a converted concaved surface len thwise from one of said ends to the other an with the said arches diminishes in depth from the shoulder end to the neck end, leaving the latter nearly fiat. The edges 5 have their deepest curve opposite the deepest part of the compound curve, and from said part said edges are straight to the neck end. This end may be cut off to shorten the form as desired. A series of pads 6 are attached under the shoulder end. Said pads overlap each other, and all of them have their outer edge flush with the edge of the shoulder end. The form is provided with a series of apertures 7 to lessen the weight of the form and for ventilation.
It will be seen that the form converges in curves from the large or shoulder end to the small or neck end and that the number of pads may be increased or diminished, accordmg to the desired elevation of a garmentshoulder Without detaching the form or changin the shape thereof.
It will be understood that the flexibility of the form will permit its being shaped as desired after it has been placed in position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As anew article of manufacture, a shoulder-form for garments com .rising a fabric sheet having a shoulder end curved lengthwise and crosswise, and a flattened neck end, the contour of the form being in compound curves.
2. As a new article of manufacture, ashoulder-form for garments comprising a fabric In testimony whereof I have hereunto sheet having a flattened neck end, a added signed my name'to the foregoing specilica- 1o shoulder end curved lengthwise an crosstion in the presence of two subscribing witwise and elevated above the neck end, and a nesses.
series of apertures fron1 the neck end to the ALEXANDRE M. GREAN. pads, the whole contour of the form being in Witnesses: compound curves, substantially as shown En. A. IsAAos,
and described. v IsInoR D. BROKAW.
