Description

Apr. 24, 1923.
A. P. STIANSEN SAFETY RAZOR Fiied Dec. 23, 1920 a? INVENTOR.
Patented Apr. 24, 1923.
v STATES 1,452,767 PATENT, OFFHIE.
ANTON P. STIANSEN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
Y sArE'rY nazon.
Application filed December 23, 1920." Serial No. 432,827.
' T all whom it may concern:
vide a blade permanently fastened. to a.
holder which serves as a handle while shaving-and when stropping blade; second, to provide a guard that can be removed to permit stropping blade; and, third, to provide a guard both sides of which are adapted for contact with blade and that is oscillatable illustrated in the on holder and can be used and held in place on either side of-"blade.
I attain these objects by the construction in which-.
Figure 1 is aside elevation showing the razor with guard in place; Fig.2 is a top view of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section on line YY; Fig. 4 is a side elevation and Fig. 5
g is a front elevation of blade andho'lder Fig.
6 is a side elevation and Figure 7 is a rear elevation of the guard; Fig. 8 is a top view of blade and holder.
Similar numerals refer tO Sll'I1Il3.I' parts throughout the several views.
Number 1 is a blade, preferably made of a high carbon sheet steel, inserted in slot M, the, side N, Q of loop M converging to Y K in holder 3, and held by pins 4.
L where the greater portion of sides N, O ends,'the remaining portion of sides N, 0 being formed into a tubular or cylindrical shape to serve as bearings D, E and F, on I which said guard oscillates when on holder 3. '(See Figs. 1, 2, and 6.) The po'ition-of sides N, O- forming bearings D,'.E, and F,
do not meet, leaving a gap G, through which blade 1 slides when guard is removed from, or replaced on holder 3. (See Figs. 1, '2, and 7.) The middle bearing E is ex tended to form edges H and which serves as means for holding sides N, O of said accompanying drawings,-
-With a plurality of bearings ona guard in opposition to, and against-sides of said blade.
(See Figs. 1, 3, and 6.) Numher 3 is a holder, preferably made of metal f rod, the lower portion of which is shaped to serve as a handle for holding razor whenshaving and when stropping blade, the upper portion being slotted to receive said blade which is permanently secured by pins 4.. (See Figs. 4, 5, and 6.)
I claim as my invention: 7 1. The combination, in a safety razor, of
the blade 1 fastened to the holder 3 and provided with notches A, B and. C, a guard 2,.provided'with a loop M having notches therein and oscillatably mounted on said holder by means of bearings D, E and F, said bearings having a gap G for said blade to slide in on; removal and replacement of said guard and thelmiddle bearing E extended longitudinall to form edges H and J providing means 'or engaging said blade and holding it against either sidev of said guard; substantially as specified.
2. In a safety razor, and in combination, a blade/inserted in a holder said blade-having a' plurality of notches on the edge inserted insaid holder that are coincident guard when said guard is mounted 6n said holder, the'journaled portion of said guard serving as means for engaging said blade and holding it in the position for use on either side of said guard.
In a safety razor, a blade inserted in a (holder, said blade having a plurality of notches on the edge inserted in said holder that are -coincident with a plurality of bearings on a guard when said guard is mounted on said holder, said notches in said blade being deep enough to permitthe free passage of the walls of said bearings on said guard between said h- .ler and bottom of said notches in said blade.
491m a safety razor, a blade inserted in a holder, said blade having a plurality of notches on the'edge inserted in said-holder that are coincident with a dplurality of bear ings on aguard when sai guard is mounted on said holder, said. notches in said blade being wide enough to permit a longitudinal movement of said guard for the'purpose of engaging said 'blade and holding it in the position foruse on either side of said guard.
5. In a safety razor, a removable, onepiece, oscillatable, rotatably mounted guard ioa the journaled portion thereof serving as V consisting of a looped portion both sides of which are adapted for contiguity' with the sides of the blade and a rear portion adapted for rotatably mounting on the blade holder and having means for engaging said 10 blade and holding said guard in the position for use on either side of said blade.
-7. In a, safety razor, a one-piece guard having a looped portion both sides of which are adapted for contiguity with the sides a of the blade and a rear portion adapted for rotatably mounting on the blade holder and for longitudinal movement on removal and replacement and means for engaging said blade and holding said guard in the position for use on either side of said blade.
