Be it known that I, LOUIS N. LEVINS'OHN, -acitizen of the United States. and residing Richmond Hill, Long island, in the clouiity lof Queens and State of New York,

hayefinvented an Improvement in Safety- Razors, of which the following is a specitcation.

The illustrated embodiment of my invention comprises a holder consisting of two members between which the blade is clamped, these members being formed to be .interlocked with, and detached from, one another in a simple and convenient manner. @ne member, which may be described as the stock comprises a head l and a handle 2, formed integrally. `rlhe other member hereinafter termed the locking lever, has two arms -3 and 4 which are in offsetbut substantially' parallel relation and are connected integrally by a narrower portion 5.

rThe blade. is held firmly` against the head by the arm 3, the latter being held in position by securing 'the arm 4 to the handle. For this purpose a spring clip l0 is pivoted at 1l to the handle. This clip isl bent around under the handle, and when in operation its lower member 12 engages the arm 4 and holds it firmly close to or against thebottom of thehandle.- The edge of the clip is bentdown at 13 to assist. in its manipulation.

When the blade is clamped, as above' described, to the head, itmay bel used for shaving in the ordinary manner, 'and the head is provided with serrated edges 16 acting as guards to constitute the razor a safety razor. fterthe blade has been used for shaving it may be conveniently removed for cleaning or sharpening by releasing the locking lever. The springclig l0 is swung on its pivot to disengage-the arm'4\l and the lock-- ing lever may then be rocked first into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig, 2,*to disengagc'the pins 9, and then laterally, as in Fig. 3, to permit the removal of the blade from the pins. The locking lever may readily be entirely disengaged fi'oin the stock for convenience in cleaning it. For. this purpose it is swung laterally into a posit-ion at right angles with the stock, and it may then be removed longitudinally through the slots 7. In order that the holder may be used also in honing or stropping the blade, two pins 14,' similar to the pins 9, project from the bottom of the handle 2 and .engage corresponding holes in the arm 4. When the blade is placed upon vthese pins, it n1ay be clamped between the handle and the arm 4, these parts being secured together by the clip l0, and in this position one edge of the blade projects, as shown in broken lines in Fig. l, sufficiently to permit it to be sharpened, the head l and arm 3 serving, in this case, as the handle of the. device. To sharpen the opposite edge of the blade, the blade is released and turned around in the holder:

In this form of holder the locking lever, after vbeing disengaged from the pins 9 and 14 by a rockiiiginovemeiit, as iii Fig. 2, is`diseiigaged from the sto/ck by a later/al. movement instead of being turned and withdrawn as in the -form of construction first described.

Although I have described the two blade clamping members of the holder by different terms, for convenience in description. it will l be obvious that their functions are interchangeable, that/is, the guards, pins and clip may be attached to either member inditferently, and the essential feature ot the construction is thev use of two lever-like bladeclanipiiiginembers adapted to clamp a blade at oiic or both ends.

Various modifications may be made in the embodiment of my invention hereinbefore described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings within the iiature ot tlie in-, vention and the scope ol tbe following claims.

I claim:

l. In a safety razor, the combination with :i pair of members, having means-for pivoting tbenitogetlier intermediate their ends, one of said members at one end heilig pro vided with a blade guard said parts being so constructed and arranged that a blade may be clamped between the members at either end 'thereof with the other end of the members forming a handle.
