As shown in Figs.
3 and 1, this bail member extends forwardly from the members 8 and can be disposed in diiferent positions. The member 11 is arranged to be used as an ironing board and for this purpose, a plurality of pairs of alined cleat members 14 are provided ex tending horizontally and secured at diiferent points to each side of the member 9. When the member 11 is to be placed in posi tion for an ironingboard, the same will be lifted from the'drawer 7 ,the straight end thereof inserted under one pair of the cleats 14- against the member 9 and the same extended horizontally over the bail member which is then secured in one of its upper positions. The cross member of the bail then engages witha cross strip or cleat 15 screwed,
or otherwise secured to the bottom of member 11.
In one position, which may be taken as the normal position, the chair will be arranged as shown in Fig. 1 and will then simply constitute an ordinary chair having the usual seat, arms and back portions, the back portion being formed by the member 11. If it is now desired to form a table, the member '11 will be removed. the hooks 12 unhooked and the members 8, together with the members 9 and 10 swung forwardly. The members 8 will then. as shown in Fig. 1, rest on the arms 2 and the sections 10 will be opened out. Aflat top circular table is then formed having a smooth fiat upper surface. This table will, be substantially supported and will form a convenient card table, dining table, or table for any other desired purpose. This table may, of course, be made of any other shape than circular by simply varying the shape of the members 9 and 10.
If desired to use the member 11 as an ironconvenient place to keep childrens toys when the device is used as a childs chair and this drawer will be normally held in closed position by the member 11.
The bail member 13, when placed in its lower position, may be used as a holder to retain a small child in the chair.
' In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the members 10 are pivoted or hinged to swing forwardly instead of rearwardly, as shown in Fig. These members can be upholstered. together with the back portions and will then form side portions for the chair. Any desirable means may also be provided to hold the same in the position shown in Fig. 5. It will also be understood that the various parts of the chair shown may be upholstered, as desired, to form a rich and comfortable piece of furniture.
From the above description it is seen that applicant has provided a very simple and very convenient article of furniture. The parts of the chair are few and can be made quite rugged. 1
It will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in the form, detailsand arrangement of the parts without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which, generally stated, consists in the matter shown and described and set forth in the appended claims.
