CENT-RIFUGAL SEPIARAT-OB.
Application filed November 10, 1920. Serial No. 423,204.
To all-'wlziom'c't may concern:
Be it, known that I, A'rAK-A OHNo, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, and a resident of No.- 3 Yayoi-Cho, Mukogaoka, Hongo-Ku, Tokyo, Empire of Japan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal Separators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in centrifugal separators and relates more particularly to means for automatically adjusting the rotation of the separator but without sustaining the loss of energy, and has for its object to provide a device of the character wherein the material containing vessel is carried by a special equalizing medium of novel character, hereinafter called balancer, instead of directly connecting it with the rotating shaft as in the ordinary case. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a. device of the character which is simple in construction, durable, efficient in separating solid matters from liquid material or separating various other solid and liquid mixtures in accordance with the difference of the specific gravities between the respective material.
In order that the invention may be thoroughly understood and easily carried into practical eifect, I have appendedhereunto a sheet of explanatory drawing, in which 7 Fig. 1 is a side elevation, half sectioned, showing the novel balancing member according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan, along the line A--A of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional line BB of Figure 1.
In the drawing the vertical shaft which view taken on the receives rotary motion from a suitable source underneath in an ordinary manner is represented by the reference numeral 1.
2 is the lea-lancer, preferably in the form of a fly-wheel having a specially enlarged and upwardly elongated hollow hub 3, which is adapted to be placed over the top end of the vertical shaft 1 in such a manner as to leave sufiicient space between the top end of the vertical shaft and the inner wall of the top. or crown end of the hub 3, as shown.-
Spaced from and adjustably mounted upon the upper end of the vertical shaft is an intermediate ring 4;. This ring is provided with four holes substantially at the points diametrically opposite'and at right angles to each other. These holes are adjustably engaged by threaded pins 5,. 5, 5 and 5, respectively.
. Whilst the inner end of each of the two opposed pins 5 and 5 reaches the hole 6 whichis provided upon the upper end portion ofthe shaft 1, the other two opposed pinsiir and 5 are adapted to- 4 with the hub 3 of the balancer.
The hub 3 is as shown reduced from the enlarged vertex to an upwardly projecting extension 10, which carries at its upper end a receiver ring 7, which, in turn, is adapted to carry thereon a suitable vessel containing the material to be treated upon, not shown in the drawing. Any suitable means may be employed to hold the vessel on said receiver ring.
Spaced from the extension 10 and adjustably supported within the receiver ring 7 is an intermediate ring 8, which is provided with four holes substantially at the points diametrically opposite and at right angles to each other. These holes threadedly engage the pins 9, 9 9 and 9, respectively. Whilst the extension 10 is supported by two opposed pins 9 and 9 the other two opposed pins 9 and 9, are adapted to support the receiver ring 7, as will be readily understood. In short, the invention contemplates theuse of' a pair of universal joints through the medium of which the vessel containing the material is connected with the balancer, which, in turn, is connected the container will be caused to deviate itself toward the direction where the effect of the centrifugal force is most intensified, the device providing means for so mounting a join the ring 7 Having thus fully described my inven-' tion, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is 1. A vertical revoluble shaft, a ring concentric therewith and pivotally mountedthereon, afly wheel having an upstanding hollow hub in which the upper portion of the shaft and said ring are concentrically arranged, said-hub being pivotally mounted on said ring, the pivotal axis of said ring being at right angles to that of said hub; a second ring concentric with and pivotally mounted on the hub, and a container holding member concentric with said second ring and pivotally mounted thereon, the pivotal axis of saidsecond ring beingat. right angles to that of said container holding member.
2. A vertical irevoluble shaft, a fly wheel having an upstanding hollow hub into which the upper end of said shaft extends,
said hub being mounted on said shaft for 'universalangular movement, and a container holding member mounted on the upper portion of saidhub for universal angular movement.
' In testimony whereof I affix my signature IIYPIBSGIICB of two witnesses.
