cnornns GUARD.
Application filed January 14, 1921.
T 0 aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Mrs. Enema S'rnn- LING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worthington, in the county ofNobles and State ofMinnesotznhave invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes Guards, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to a clothes guard, for attachment to ironing boards on' the foldable type to prevent clothes being ironed from coming in contact with the floor upon ing boards which is simple in construction and may be quickly and easily attached to the ironing board or detached therefrom when it is desired to fold the board for storage.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description and in the accompanying drawings wherein;
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the ironing board showing the invention applied.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the clothes guard.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the improved clothes guard.
Fig. 4 is a detailed cross section through the clothes guard showing one of the at taching members.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the improved clothes guard comprises a supporting frame 1 including side members of rails 2 and 3 each of which includes a pair of telescopical connected sections a and 5 which permit adjustment of the length of the clothes guard. The ends of the side rails 2 and 3 are curved inwardly towards each other as shown at16 and the ends of the sections 5 of the side rails 2 and 3 receive therein the spring plugs 7 of the attaching clamps 8. The plugs 7 are substantially cylindrical in shape being split as shown at 9 and having their ends remote has a fabric slip mounted- ;seriai m ma.
from the attaching plate 8 spaced as shown at 10 to impart resilient spreading action to the plugs, to cause them 6 of the- 3. The attaching the legs'C of an board in any suitable manner, and by slipping the' curved ends 6 onto the plugs 7 the clothes guard attachment may be quickly and easily attached'to the ironing board structure. Supporting hooks 11 are carried by the legs C of the ironing board structure and engage the side rails 2 and 3 for supplates 8 are attached to to frictionally grip the inner surface of the curved ends sections 5 of the. side rails 2 and ordinary foldingv ironing porting them against pivotal movement on the plugs 7 as pivots. A slip or covering 12 of any suitable material is mounted over the frame "1 to receive thereon the clothes being ironed and contact of the prevent clothes with. the floor.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other. manners and the parts assoclated in different relations and,';therefore, I do not desire tobe limited in any manner exceptas set forth in the claims hereuntoappended. Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
'1. In combination with an ironing board including legs, of a clothes guard comprising a frame including side rails composed of telescoping sections, certain ends of said sections being inturned and hollow and outwardly extending plugs carried-by certain of said legs, and
MRS. EMELIA STERLING.
adapted to have binding I action with the hollow ends of said sections, I
