WILLIAM LfHUDsoN, or LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA, assienon montrait MonnIsoivf intatti! Winn-Moron sien'.
Application filed January .10, 1922*. Serial lNr'io.` 528,229; e i
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM L. l-lnDSoN, a citizen of thevUnited States, residing at Lynchburg, in the county ofCampbell and Stateof Virginia, have invented Acertain new and useful Improvements in WindMotor Signs, of which the following is a specification. y y
This invention relates to Vnew and useful improvements in advertising devices,"and
more particularly to improvements upon al deviceofy the character disclosed in my co-` pendin application for vwind motor signs, S. NA asistan-01M@ 27th, 192i.V
The important object of the present invention resides in the,k provision of asign having oppositely disposed advertising devices or means for attracting attention to the sign associated therewith and which can be transposed or interchanged so that their pol sitions with respectl to rthensign will be reversed, thereby eliminating certain preca'u! tions which would have to be taken in lettering the sign and advertising devices if the latter were not interchangeable.
the'various parts lfor the accomplishment of the purpose above set forth in a commercial manner.
Other objects and advantages ofthe invention will become apparent during the courseof the following description.` v 4 In the accompanying` drawings forming a part of the descriptionand wherein like numerals are employed, to designate like t parts throughout the .several views.

The sign lin the present instance consists of a pair of spacedparallel, Aoppositely disposed panels f8 secured face vto face, wherebythe advertis- 'ingymatter or the outer `faces of the panels' 'are visible from vo-p-posite'sides of the signf bars Auxiliary to this ob'ect Vis to provide an" inexpensive and yet durable construction for An upright lbar 9 is fastened anylsuitable means 'between thepanels 8v at each` end of the sign, fit being. `The windl vwheel .may4 be-"of anyfdesired constructionso as to be rotated bythewind and, is demountafbly connected in a frame 14. Thisv frame consists'ofjapair of bars l15-re tained in "spaced parallelrelation by' rods 16 inthe same manner vas 'disclosed in I my copending application.y The bars 15 are each equipped witha bearing forthe axle of the 1 f wind wheelfand theends of the inner ,bar of the lfrankie are 'providedfwithapertures adapted. `to align with 4Jthose in the-bars9- forming a part of the'fsign. f lt. will therei fore be appreciated that the windfwheel e frame can yalsohbe detachably connected to `'either end of the sign or lpanels therefore the vane and windy wheel frameare inter'-v changeable with respectltothe sigi'i.l y,

"Were it not for thefact thatftlrie frame 14 and vanefwereinterchangeable lso that either one vcould kbe attached-,to eitherjend of' the sign kp proper, it will be seen'that precaution would 'have to be exercised in lettering the sign and vane `to anticipatethe [desires of the joint purchasers Since thel advertising devices f t vica-each having one side ofthe central sign i l and the'opposite side vofthe vane, oieach 9o', i Land vane,r V itis desired tofpoint out thatv vention.
are interchangeable, the advertisements of the joint purchasers may be painted upon either side of the vane, and the purchasers upon receiving the wind motor sign may assemble the same in the manner they desire or change the arrangement from time to' time. As the vane and wind wheel frame are detachable from the sign proper and the latter can be removed from the rod 6, it will be seen that the device can be crated compactly and shipped in the minimum amount of space.
The operation of the advertising device is the same as the device'disclosed in my above mentioned coi-pendingv application with regards to the operation of the wind upon the device, it being appreciated that the sign proper 'and the vane will act in the capacity of a weather vane to shift the device so that the wind wheel l1 will be -rotated whenever there is any wind. The blades of the wind wheel are painted with various combinations of bright colors so. that rotation of the wheel will attract attention to the advertising matter situatedy on the panels 8 and vane 12.
The foregoing description and the laccompanying drawings have reference to the preferred or approved embodiments of my in- It is to be understood however, that such changes may be made inthe construction and arrangement of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., as may prove eX- pedient and fall within the scope of the appended claims. t
Having thus illustrated and described my invention, what l nowfclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
