To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARL LIKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Direction Indicators, of which the following is a speci-- fication.

This invention relates to improvements in direction indicators in which an advertising sign or plate has associated there with a novel means for indicating the direction of certain designated points.

An object of, this invention is to provide a direction indicator of novel design and construction, which may be used both for advertlsing purposes and as a means to 1nd1- catethe direction and distances of certain designated places.

Another object of this invention is to provide a direction indicator which may be used to designate the direction and distance of a plurality of places, as well as to display some advertisement.

In'the drawing, forming a part of this application:

Fig. 1 is a front view of the direction indicator, showing the manner in which the same is formed;

Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same; and

Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the line S of Fig. 2, showing the means used for attaching the plate to the upright post.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents. an upright post, provided at the top with a suitable recess into which a projection 2, of the square shaped plate 3, is inserted. The plate is secured to the post by means of bolts 4, which extend through the projection 2 and the post 1.

The plate 3, may be constructed from any suitable material, such as metal or wood, and is provided at three of its corners with arrow shaped members 5. The central portion of the plate is inscribed with suitable lettering or designs 6, which may assume the form of advertising matter, while the INDICATOR.

arrow shaped members are provided with lettering and figures 7 suitable for indicating the distances of certain places. The advertising matter 6 of the sign may be colored in some particular shade, and the arrow member 5 pointing in the direction where the place or thing advertised is situated, may be colored in the same shade. The main highway or road may be designated by one of the arrows having thereon some particular color, while the other arrow may be colored in some other shade or hue. Thus the signs or direction indicators, may, if there be a number displayed along a highway, be each provided with an arrow of some particular color used to designate the main highway, while another arrow may be colored in the same hue as the advertisement and used to designate the town or city where the thing advertised is situated.

It is apparent thatthe invention herein disclosed may assume other forms or shapes and may be constructed in a manner somewhat .dififerent than the form shownon the drawings, for that reason I do not desire to be limited to the exact disclosure herein made, it being sufficient to state that the claims hereunto appended will be construed as a definition of the limits of my invention.

l. A direction indicator comprising an upright post, a square shaped plate secured to the post at one of its corners, and a plurality of varied colored arrow shaped me1nbers attached to the other corners of the plate. v

2. A direction indicator comprising an upright post, a square shaped plate having three corners thereof provided with varied colored arrow shaped members and the body portion thereof provided with a particular color, and a means for attaching the plate to the post.
