A TTORNEY CHARLES E. ALLEN, OF ATTLEBGRO, IVIASSACHUSETTS.
rnsfrnrrnn.
Application filed. May 5, `1922.r Serial No. 558,729.
T all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, @nannies ll. a citizen ot the United States, residing at Attleboro.` in the county oit Bristol and State ot Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful linproi'fenients in Fasteners, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to fasteners of the latch type adapted for use uponlwrist bands and the like llfhe essential objects oi ymy invention are security, inexpensiyeness oit construction, compactness. and the avoidance et objectionable projections. y y
'lo the above ends essentially rey invention consists in such parts and in such com binations oit parts as fall within. the scope of the appended claim.
ln the accompanying drawings which forno a part of this specification,
Figures 1 and 2 are a side elevation` and a plan View respectively of niy fastener showing portions et the adjacent ends of a wrist ribbon or band.
ligure 3, a section oi 3-3 of Figure 1. y
Figures l and 5,1 section of the saine on line 4@ of Figure 2 showingthe parts in closed and open positions respectively. and Figure (L a bottoni plan `yiew `of the same. Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the views. f I
` ln detail the Jfastener comprises a rsubstantially flat plate or body with its forward portion 11 transversely otset downwardly, as at 12, so that the portions 10 and 11 lie in l parallel planes. The central portion ot the oii'set is cut away as at 13, and extends into the portion 10 as at 14, the whole 'forming an elongated slot or openingr 15. integral with the portion 11` ot the plate 10 is a guard hook 17 eedzendingA upwardly and rearwardly Whosebeak portion 1? is parallel with theportion 1l. lilidway its length the plate or body has lat-eral oxtcnsions whose ends are upwardly folded to forni Flat pliable clampingr iinpjers 21 to the Jfastener on line frictionelly embrace and retain one end et a wrist ribbon J3 against the lower face ot the body. lnwardly and downwardly bent lateral lugs 25 at the rear end of the body serve as guides tor a slidable plate 27 which y ALLEN,
entends through the slot 15. The rear portion of the plate`27 rests againstthe lower face of theplate 10, while its forward* portion rests upon the upper tace of the body portion 11. lt will be observed that the slot `wardly inclined finger 3,2 whose tree end is yspaced from the beak 30 and `in the plane of the beak 18.
Upon the rear end of the slide is an upturned ear or finger piece 34C for manually withdrawing the slide.
ln this instance a ring" or loop 36 is shown attached to the end of the ribbon 23 opposite the fastener, but it will be understood that the loop may ybe that of a wrist watch.
ln operation the slide is initially drawn rearwardly to open position as shown in Figure 5 wherein the finger 32 is spaced from the beak 18, and the end of the beak 30 registers with the end of the bear 18. The loop 36 is inserted into theL resultant opening and brought into the cavity oi' the' hook 29 and drawn forwardly whereby the finger 32 is advanced into Contact with the hooky".` thusclosing the temporary space or opening.
1t will be noted that the fastener `may be cut and bent from sheet metal and that the guiding' means ot the slide atl'ords cornpactness of structure and avoids parts.
ln a fastener of the type set forth, a body plate including an intermediate offset por tion provided-with a `guide slot, a guard hook upon the forward end, of the plate, guides upon the rear end oif4 the body plate, a slide upon the plate in the guides and extending tl'irough the slot. an operating: hook upon one end of the slide within the first hook, anda finger on the slidev adapted to abut against the first hook.
in testimony whereof l have allixed my signature.
