POCKET CASE FOR CHEWING GUM.
Application filed May 12, 1925. Serial No. 29,724.
My invention has reference to an improvement. in cases for carrying small articles in the pockets of wearing apparel and more particularly to an improvement in the construction of a case for holding a small package of chewing-gum usually consisting of five pieces of the gum.
The object of my invention is to improve the construction of such a chewing-gum case, whereby the chewinggum is more readily accessible to the user, when the case is opened. than has heretofore been done.
Another object of my invention is to construct such a chewing-gum case with spring frictional means on the cover, whereby the cover is held in the closed position by'spring friction.
A further object of my invention is to construct the cover of the case with sidewisc means for holding a package of chewinggum on the cover and also with spring means for holding a plurality of pieces of chewing-gum on the cover under spring tension.
A final object of my invention is to simplify the construction of such a. case for chewing-gum, whereby the cost of manufacturing the case is reduced to a minimum.
My invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction of a pocket-case for chewing-gum, said pocket-case for chewing-gun'i having details of construction, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter and claimed.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved pocket-case for chewing-gum and .showing the case in the closed position.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the same and showing the case in the open position with the package of chewing-gum, indicated on the cover in broken lines.
Figure 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view through the case with the cover in the closed position and showing the spring means for holding the chewing-gum on the cover in its normal position in full lines and in the position it would assume in holding the package of chewing gum on the cover in broken lines, and
Figure 4; is a central transverse sectional view through the case with the cover in the closed position in full lines and showing the cover raised from the body of the case, in broken lines.

In the drawing 5 indicates a package of The body 6 is in the form of an elongated comparatively deep box shaped body to receive the package of chewing-gum 5 when the flat cover 7 is closed and it is constructed to have a bottom 8, sides 9, 9, a hinge end 10 on which is formed the outer parts 11, 11 of a hinge 12 and an opposite end 13 in the upper eldgc of which is a notch 14, all formed integra The flat cover 7 is shaped to fit flush in the body 6 and has a central hinge member 15 forming the other part of the hinge 12 and on the opposite end a small cover lifting member 16 which enters the notch 14 and extends slightly beyond the end 13, when the cover is closed, as shown in Figure 1. On the under side of and at each side of the cover is formed a spring side arm 17, having an inwardly bent L shaped end 18 and extending from the hinge member 15 is a spring arm 19 having an end portion 20 bent at approximately right-angles to the cover and a bifurcated portion 21 bent at an angle from the end portion 20 so as to lay over onto the cover 7, all formed integral. This bifurcated portion 21 of the spring arm 19 forms a sight opening 22 through which may be seen on the package, the printed flavor of the gum. And the spring side arms 17, 17 spring slightly outwards, as shown in broken lines in Figure 4, when the cover is opened.
\Vhen in use the spring arm 19 is raised against the spring tension of the arm and a package of chewing-gum placed on the cover 7, the spring side arms 17. 17 and the spring arm 19 detachably holding the package of chewing-gum on the cover. The cover is now closed, thereby forcing the spring side arms 17, 17 into the body 6 and the cover is now held in the clos 01 position by the spring friction of the spring side arms 17, 17, on the sides 9, 9, of the body 8. When a piece of chewing-gum is required for use, the 00V or is opened, as shown in Figure 2, thereby bringing the package of chewing-gum, on the cover, out of the body of the case and into a convenient position for removal of a piece of gum from the cover.
