I mvzzvroza. LEW G. HAITIIUND ATTO Patented Dec, 5, 1922.
uurruo STATES LEVI G. HAMMOND, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
HOT-WATER BOTTLE.
Application filed July 2, 1921. Serial No. 482,178.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Law: G. I-lAMMoNn, a citizen of the United States of America, rcsiding at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hot-Water Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates generally to hot water bottles, and more particularly to the usual flexible hot water bottle having a screw closure member which seats in the threaded neck of the bottle around its intake and discharge opening and which becomes so readily misplaced when after use the bottle is hung in inverted position to permit it to thoroughly drain. It is common practice to tie the stopper or closure member by a flexible cord and the like to the neck of thebottle but such a connection frequently becomes broken and when after draining it is desired to close the bag or again use the same, the stopper or closure member is missing.
It is also quite common to provide one end of the hot water bag opposite to its intake and discharge opening with an apertured tab for hanging the bag in inverted draining position after use.
My invention aims to provide means whereby the danger of misplacement or loss of the stopper member is avoided and it is a further object to do this in such a way that the bag cannot be held or hung in inverted draining position after use unless the stopper or closure member is in a safe position.
In the accompanying drawing which illus trates my present invention and forms a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a side view of a hot water bag showing the parts in position for use,
Figure 2 is a sectional view through one end thereof opposite to its intake and dis charge opening, and
Figure 3 is a side view showing the same ready for hanging in the inverted draining position. i
Referring now to these figures my invention proposes a hot water bag 10, which as to its body and water holding compartment may be of the usual or any desired construction, the invention contemplating a flexible bag having the usual intake and discharge I opening within a neck portion 11 whose flaring wall 12 around and protecting the stopper or closure member 13 in its position for use as shown in Figure 1., may have the usual apertured hanger tab 14.
My invention proposes the provision of such a bag with a socket 15 at its opposite end in lieu of the usual tab, which socket member is closed atits base or in other words is in non-communicating relation in respect to the body of the bag and has internal threads 16 adapted to receive the screw plug or closure 13 when the latter is unscrewed and detached from the neck 11. t
It is contemplated moreover that the screw plug or closure 13 in the present instance shall have an aperture, ora ring such as shown at 17, which forms an aperture, so that it is adapted to engage a hook or other supporting member for hanging the bag in inverted draining position and inasmuch as the usual tab for this purpose is eliminated and the plug or closure member within the sockets 15 is the sole means of hanging the bag in inverted position, it becomes quite obvious that before the bag can be so hung following use, the stopper or closure member must necessarily be within the socket 115 and thus in position eifectively obviating its misplacement and loss.
In Figure 3 I have shown the stopper or closure member 13 detached from the neck portion 11 or in otherwords detached from the position it occupies in use of the bag, and;
"screwed into the socket 15 at the opposite end of the bag so that the latter may no hun up for draining.
I claim:
1. A hot water bag havinga filling and discharge aperture in communicating relation therewith at one end and having at its opposite end a socket in non-communicating relation thereto, and a closure member for the said aperture, adapted also to engage in i said socket and form a suspending device for the inverted bag. I
2. A hot Water bag having a filling and closure member having hook i'eceivingmemis discharge aperture at one end and a threadwhereby to form a hanger when disposed ed closure member for said aperture, and also Within the socket as and for the purpose de- 10 having a socket member at its opposite end scribed.
F provided with internal threads to receive the In testimony whereof I have zlfiixed my closure member When the latter is detached signature. from the fillingand discharge apertnre aid LEVI G. HAMMOND.
