CHARLES J. BARRENPOHL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. May 20, 1913.
Serial No. 768,725.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. BARREN- ronL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, West New Brighton, borough of Richmond, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combination IceBag, ater-Bottle, and Fountain-Syringe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to rubber goods and I has particular reference to certain details of construction of water bags or bottles whereby a single device is better adapted for various purposes than other devices now commonly in use.
Among the particular objects of the invention is to produce a container of flexible waterproof material, such as rubber or ruber composition, the same having a comparatively large mouth adapted to be closed by a removable and reversible closure.
A further object of the invention is to simplify and cheapen this class of devices whereby the same or a part of the same elements serve in different capacities according to the various uses to which the apparatus may be put.
The foregoing and other objects of the invention will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the drawings forming a part of this specification in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a fragment of the container showing the mouth and closure portions in vertical section and indicating the use of the device as a fountain syringe; and Fig. 2 is a view of the mouth and closure portions when the device is presumed to be used as a hot water bottle or ice bag.
Except as hereinafter specified, the several i parts of the apparatus may be made of any suitable materials and the relative sizes and proportions of the same may be varied to a I certain extent without departing from the spirit of the invention hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.
The bottle or bag 10 hereinafter referred to for convenience as the container has a preferably wide or large mouth having a collar 11 secured in any suitable manner to the adjacent edge of the container. Said i same comprising a body collar 11 is shown provided with an internal thread 11.
The closure means shown includes a substantially flat cap 12 having a threaded hub 13 adapted to fit into the threaded portion of the collar 11, the manipulation of the cap being effected by grasping the overlapping rim 11-. A gasket 15 is )referably used between the collar and the rim.
A combination plug is shown at 16, the 17 having a pair of flat faces from each of which extends a threaded shank. The shank 18 is shown provided with a central bore 15) which extends through the body 17 and also through a nipple 20 on the side of the body opposite the shank 18, said nipple being intended for the connection of an ordinary form of rubber hose 21. Said shank 18, when fitted in a central threaded hole 12 of the cap in the position shown in Fig. 1, enables the device to be used in the usual manner as a fountain syringe, and all possibility of leakage is prevented by means of a gasket 22 between the body 17 and the cap. \Vhen, however, the syringe is not desired, the plug 16 is unscrewed from the cap and the shank 23 on the other side thereof is screwed into the same hole 12. The gasket 22 or a similar one may be employed in this connection if desired. The tubing 22 may be removed or left connected as may be found most convenient, assul'ning that the plug 16 is used on the outside of the cap 12, as it may be. Generally, however, the tubing will be removed and the plug will be connected to the inside of the cap especially when the device is to be used as an ice bag, as shown in Fig. 2. For this purpose, of course, the cap will be removed from the collar 11, the diameter of the collar being large enough to introduce the plug 16 into the interior of the bag as well as the lumps of ice. It will be observed, therefore, that the device provides a closure means for a container of the character set forth which is of a simple and comparatively cheap nature and which is reliable for various uses to which the device is adaptable.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of a container mouth fitted with a and closure means having a screw threaded collar therefor, said closure Patented Nov. 18, 1913.
means including a cap screw threaded into having the bore and through which said bore 10 said collar and having an opening thereextends. through and a plug having a plurality of In testimony whereof I have signed my shanks adapted to cooperate in said cap name to this specification in the presence of opening With the plug on either the inside two subscribing Witnesses;
or the outside of said cap, one of said shanks CHARLES J. BARRENPOHL. being solid and the other provided with a l Vitnesses:
