IMPROVEMENT IN SHOVEL-HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,714, dated October 14, 1873; application filed y August 27, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES PoMERoY and JOHN DOUGLASS OWEN, of Mattoon, in the county of Goles and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shovel- Handles; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in constructing the end of the handle of a shovel or spade, or other like implement, with a metallic brace, as will be hereinafter described.
In the annexed drawings making` part of this specification, A represents the shovelblade, and B the handle. O O represent the two straps usually used for connecting the blade to the handle. D represents a metallic brace-plate, which is inserted in a slot or opening in the handle made to receive it. This plate stands edgewise with reference to the blade, and has an eye, as seen at each end.
