UNITED STATES PATENT OrFIoE.
ROBERT M. PATTILLO, OF OARTERSVILLE, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEN IENT IN REVERSIBLE PLOW-POINTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,864, dated September 16,1873; application filed April 19, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT M. PATTIL- LO, of Oartersville, Bartow county, State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Plow- Point; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification. The invention relates to the plow-iron now generally used in the cultivation of cotton upon a one-horse frame, and attached only to the foot of standard by a bolt, which passes through the plow, and which holds it in a notch upon an inclined surface. These are known throughout the South as twisterplows, the share and mold-board being in one piece, somewhat spirally concaved. The invention consists in the peculiar relative construction of the two parts of these twisterplow irons, so that the mold-board and point become interchangeable, and, wearing at differout parts, enable nearly or quite double the service to be obtained out of the same quantity of metal.
Figures 1 and 2 are a plan and longitudinal section of the twister-iron. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the plow. Fig. 4 is a detail view of end of recessed standard B. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the plow-iron.
A represents an ordinary one-horse plowframe, having the end-recessed standard B, into which the plow-iron-O is bolted in the usual manner. D is the point, and D the mold-board, which are counterparts of each other in form, but reversely curved at each end, so that the concavity of one is on the same side with the convexity of the other. 01 is a notch or angular recess, through whose vertex would pass a plane equally dividing the plow-iron into two similar parts. d d are two bolt-holes, correspondingly located in the part D D. By simply turning'the plow-iron O a half-revolution on its longitudinal axis the point and mold-board are reversed. in position and ready for work.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The plow-iron O,When provided with notch d and bolt-holes d, and reversely curved at each end, as and for the purpose described.
ROBERT M. PATTILLO.
