Application filed December 23, 1920. Serial No. 432,816.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LHARRY Burner-ran, citizen of the United States, residing at Lorain, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and use tul Improvements in Toy Pistols, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toy pistols and has "for its principal object to provide a simple and inexpensive device, which is capable of producing a series 01" cracking sounds while pulling a trigger and repeat ing said sounds when the trigger is auto matically returning to its original position 'lVth the above and other objects in view as will be readily understood, the invention will be hereinafter fully described as illustrated in" the accompanying drmvings, and the novel featuresthereof will be distinctly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings similar characters are front and rear complemental halves 2 and.
3 stamped from sheet metal and secured in matched relation by spot welding at i or any other suitable manner. The barrel of the pistol is indicated by 5, the breech portion by 6 and the stock by 7. A sound box 8 formed from stamped material consists of a base 9, sides 10 and 11, and a bottom end 12, and its open top side is closed by a plate of spring material 13, which extends above the upper open end of the box and is held in place by bending thereover the free edges of said sides and bottom end. The base 9 of the sound box 8 is fixed to the inner side of the rear half 3 of the stock 7 by spot welding at 1% or in any other suitable manner, and the free end of the spring plate 18 projects upwardly and is adapted to be en gaged by the teeth of a wheel 15, which is arranged crosswise of said spring plate, ihe toothed wheel 15 is adapted to be retated first in one direction and then in the other and isfixed. to a fiat bar 16 having tapering ends 1'? and 18, which are supported in openings provided in inwardly extending lugs 19 and 20 struck up from the rear halt 3 oi the body in alignment with the barrel 5 of the pistol. A portion of the flat bar 16 is twisted as at 91, and this is engaged by the edges of a vertical slot 22 provided in a lateral wing 23 ofa trigger 2%, which is pivoted at 25 to the rear half of the body and its finger portion 26 e3;- tends through a slotted opening 2'? thereof. By pulling rearwardly upon the linger portion 26 of the trigger, the edges of the slot 22 will act upon the twisted portion of the bar 16, thereby causing the bar and the toothed wheel 15 fixed thereto to rotate in one direction, and a sultable spring 28, having one end attacl'i'ed at 29 to the trigger said wheel rotate out of engagement with said free end of the spring plate, the same strikes the next adjacent tooth due to the spring action, thereby producing a sharp report. The full movement of the trigger in either direction rotates the toothed wheel 18 severaltimes, which produces a series of quick cracking sounds. a
It is thought that the invention will be fully understood without further explanation, and although the construction illustrated will produce the desired results, it will be understood that slight changes in the design and mechanism may be made within the scope of the claims.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is;
1. In a toy pistol, the combination of a body, a spring plate, the plate being supported at one end by the body, a toothed wheel for engaging the free end of said plate, means including a trigger and a twisted bar 'wheel for engaging the free end of said plate, a bar rot-stably supported by the body, the toothed rheel being fixed to the bar, the bar having twisted portion, and means for acting upon the twisted portion for rotating the bar, substantially as described.
3. in a toy pistol, the combination of a body, a spring plate, the plate being supported at one end b the body, a toothed wheel for enga ing the free end of said plate, a bar rotatably supported by the "ody, he toothed Wheel being fixed to the for rotatin "he bar in one n, and
directio a spring iior returning the trigger to its original position for rotating the bar in the other direction, substantially as described.
4. In a toy pistol, the combination of a body, a spring plate, the plate being supported at one end by the body, a toothed wheel for engaging the free end of said plate, rotatably supported by the body, the toothed Wheel being fixed to the bar, the bar being twisted, and a trigger acting upoi'i the twisted bar for causing rotation thereof, substantially as described.
5. in atoy pistol, the combination of a body, a spring plate, the plate being supported at one end by the body, a toothed Wheel for engaging the free end of said plate, a bar rotatably supported by the body, the toothed Wheel being fixed to the bar, the bar being twisted, and a trigger acting upon the twisted bar for causing rotation thereof in one direction, and means for returning the trigger to its original position for causing rotation of: the twisted bar in the other direction, substantially as described.
6. in toy pistol, the combination of a body, a spring plate, the plate being supported one end by the body, a toothed Wheel for engaging the free end of said plate, a bar rotatably supported by the body, the toothed wheel being fixed to the bar, the bar being twisted, a trigger, and the trigger being provided With a slot for receiving the twisted bar to actuate same, substantially as described.
7 In a toy pistol, the combination of a body, a spring plate, the plate being supported at one end by the body, a toothed wheel for engaging the free end of said plate, a bar rotatably supported by the body, the toothed Wheel being fixed to the bar, the bar being twisted, a trigger, the trigger being provided with a slot for receiving the twisted bar to actuate same, and a spring to hold the trigger in its normal position, substantially as described.
8. In a toy pistol, the combination of a body, a spring plate, the plate being supported one end by the body, a toothed Wheel for. engaging the free end of said plate, a bar, the toothed Wheel being fixed to the bar, lugs carried by said body, the lugs bein provided with openings, said bar having tapering ends pivotally supported in the openings of said lugs, and means for rotating said bar, substantially as described.
9. In a toy pistol, the combination of a body, a sound box supported by the body, a spring plate, the plate being supported at one end by the sound box and forming a side thereof, means for engaging the Iree end of said plate to cause vibratory movement thereof, and means for actuating said means, substantially as described.
In tes imony whereof I aitix my signature.
