Description

HH MI WQ MOORE A E APPARATUS Filed Feb. 1, 1922 w s Feb. 1o, 1925. H Q a UNITED ierras Pin TIEN'TJO'IF-FILCE.,
wan'rnn MOORE, or nos ANGELES, cnnrronmn. f
emn arranaros.
Application ma Iebruary 1 1922. Serial No. 533,430.
To 'whom it may mm.- 1 Be it known thatvI, WALTER Moorin, a sub ject of the Ki of Great Britain, residing at Los Angeles, 1n the county of Los Angeles and State ofCalifornia, have invented new and useful Im rovem'ents in Game Apparatus, l of w oh the following is a specification. 1
My invention relates to game devices, and a purpose of my invention isthe provision ofagame device including a pivoted arm adapted to be struck with a bat or addle for eflecting the vertical projection o a ball or other form of projectile which is supported inoverlying relation to one end of the arm, the samebat being used for knock in the ball while inmid air.
will describe one form of game device.
one ormf of game device embodying my1n-' vention. p
Fig. 2 is aview showing in side elevation the game. device shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one form of bat adapted for use with the device shown in the preceding views and alsoembodying 30 my invention. .c i
Referrin specifically to the drawings in which simi a'r reference characters refer to similar parts, my invention, in itspresent embodiment, oomprises a base or sh port B preferably constructed of wood an of rectangular form as shown in Fig. 1. Pivotally sustained on the base B is an arm A extending between a pair of upstanding cars that receive a pivot pin 16, whichalso passes t ed for pivotal movement u n the base. The ears 15 are formed on a pl ste 17 secured to the base as by screws or other suitable fastenin means. One end of the arm is provide with aconvex projection 18 adapted for engagement with a ball or other form of rojec-tile shown in dashlines in Figs. 1 and 2, and sustained in overlying relation to this end of the arm by a bracket K.
through the arm whereby the arm is mount- The bracket K is formed of a. simrln lnn nth of. wire bent to providea circular horizontal portion 19 adapted to sustain the ball above the projection 18, and depending vertical portlons 20 extending into the 'basefB and thereby serving to support the bracket in upright position.
i A leaf spring 21 is secured to the plate 17 atone end, while at its opposite end bears" against the armA at that side of the pivot 16 opposite from the projection end of the 0 1 arm. By this arrangement it will be. seen thatthe spring functions to normally depressthe projection end of the arm, while the .OPPOSItG GIId is elevated and adapted to be struck with the bat T, as shown in Fig. 3. The bat T is in the present instance inthe form of aipaddlewithone end reduced in width to provide a handle 22. a
In the operation of the game-device, a
ball preferably formed of rubber and hollow. is placed upon the portion 19 of the bracket K as is s own. in dash lines in Fig2 with the projecting end of the arm depressed under theactionof the spring 21, the opposite end of the arm isnow struck with the T 7 bat T so that the projecting end is forced. upwardly through the portion 19 thereby projecting the ball upwardly. In actual 3 practice theplayer who does the .strildng with the bat T alsouses the bat toknock the so ball while in mid "air Although I have herein shown and describedonly one form of, game device embodying my invention, it is to be'understood that various chan es and modifications may as be made herein without departing from, the spirit ofthe invention and the spirit and S00 e of the appended claims.
l at I claim is: i
.1. A game device comprisinga base an 9o 5 arm pivoted on the base and a spring for normally urging said arm to a position. wherein one end of the arm is lowered and the other elevated, and a bracket forsupporting a projectile in overlying relation to as the lowered end of the arm and constructed 1 H to permit the passage of the armupwardly therethrough to engage the projectile.
2. A game device comprising a base, an
arm pivoted on the base. and a sprin for j normally urging said arm to a position wherein one end of the arm is lowered and and the other elevated, and Ya. bracket including a substantially circular horizontal portion adapted to provide a ball seat, and
vertical portions extending into the bese for supporting; the circulanportion in horizontal position, said horizontal portion and vertical name tothis specification. I
