citizen ofthe United States, residing at Car-v negie, in-the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is afspecification. g i

This invention relates to sounding toys, or what may be termed a sounding pistol of the toy type, and has for'its obj ect toprovide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a skeleton pistol body carrying a bell and a proj ectile and further having means whereby the projectile is impacted against the bell to sound the latter without any possibility of the operator being injured by the projectlle during the passage'thereof to impact agalnst the bell.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a sounding toy which is simple in its construction, strong, durable, convenient in its use, amusing when used, readily set up, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects 111 view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawing in detail the toy includes a skeleton body in the form of a pistol and which is constructed from wire of a suitable diameter to provide a substantially rigid body.

The toy comprises a handle 1 provided with an eye 2. The upper end of the handle 1 has depending therefrom a forwardly proj ecting supporting yoke 3, the base 4: of which provides a pivot for a projecting or trigger member to be presently referred to.

Extending forwardly from the top of the handle 1 is an elongated guide bar 5, which has its outerportion bent substantially U- shaped, as at 6, and with the free-arm of the U-shaped portion 6, providing a support for a bell 7. The-free arm of the U-shaped por tion has a collar 8, against which is mounted the bell 7, and the free terminus of said arm is upset, as at 9, against the bell 7, whereby the hell is fixedly secured to the U-shaped portion 6. As shown the bell 7 is inverted, but it is obvious that it can be mounted in a position reverse of that shown. The guide bar 5, at the rear thereof, is formed with a transverse arm 10, which constitutes a stop for a purpose to be presently referred to. Mounted on the bar 5 and adapted to be projected along said bar 5, to impact against the bell 7, to sound the latter is a projectile 11, which is formed with an opening 12, for mounting on the bar 5. As shown the projectile is of globular shape but any suitable shaped projectile canbe employed.

The projecting or trigger member comprises a stem 13, having its lower portion formed to provide a finger piece 14, and said stem 13, above the finger piece is looped, as at 15, for the purpose of mounting and connecting said member on the pivot or base 1. The stem 13 terminates in a yoke shaped head 16, which straddles the bar 5, and has the upper portion of the arms thereof bent toward each other to prevent the head shifting off the bar 5, when said member is actuated to project the projectile toward the bell 7. The head 16 is arranged forwardly of the stop arm 10, and rearwardly with respect to the projectile 11, so that when the finger piece 1 1 is engaged and pulled rearwardly the head 16 will be moved forwardly against the projectile 11 and cause the latter to shift on the bar 5, or rather propelled along said bar 5 so as to strike the hell 7, the latter being arranged in the path of the projectile 11.

The stem 13, at its upper portion is formed with an eye 18, to which is attached one end of a retracting sprin 19; the other endofthe spring 19, is attached to the eye 2. The eye 18 is positioned above the pivot of the projecting or trigger member. The spring 19 is employed for restoring the trigger or projecting member to normal position when pressure is relieved from the finger piece 14;. A sounding toy comprising a handle provided with a depending support to form a pivot, a guide bar projecting forwardly from the handle, and having a bell at its outer end and a stop at its inner end, a trigger member mounted on said pivot and having raised slightly at an inclination and the' proa head straddling said bar forwardly of the stop, said head having inherent means to prevent separation thereof from the bar, and a projectile mounted upon and adapted to be propelled on the bar by said head when the trigger member is operated to strike and sound the bell.

3. A sounding toy comprising a handle provided with a depending support to form a pivot, a guide bar projecting forwardly from the handle, said bar having a bell at its outer end and a stop at its inner end, atrigger member mounted on said pivot and having a head straddling said bar forwardly of the stop, a projectile mounted upon and adapted to be propelled on the bar by said head when the trigger memberis operated to strike and sound thebell, and a retracting spring connecting the trigger member to the handle.
