1 Claim.

This invention relates to toys and amusement devices, and has for its main object to provide a toy gun of novel effect and construction.

Another object of this invention is to provide a toy gun having a head with a humorous funny face at one end of the gun facing the hammer thereof, so that when the firing of the gun is imitated, said hammer will hit the face and ring a bell arranged in the head.

Still a further object of this invention is to have a novel, more efiicient arrangement for the interaction of the hammer and trigger of such a toy gun.

Still further objects of this invention will be apparent as the specification of the same proceeds, and among others I may mention; to provide a toy gun as characterized hereinbefore which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and particularly adapted to mass manufacturing.

In the drawing forming a part of this specification and accompanying the same:

Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my novel toy gun showing the parts thereof in the position when the operation of the gun is started;

Fig. 2 is another side elevation showing the parts in a position when the triggering of the gun has proceeded to a certain extent; while Fig. 3 is an end elevation of my novel gun, the view being taken from the butt end thereof.

Referring to the drawing more in detail by characters of reference, the numeral l0 indicates the housing of my gun, being in the form of a hollow body, shaped like indicated in the figures, and composed of the two halves Illa and lb joined on the line I I, and secured together by any appropriate manner well known in this art.

The central portion l2 of the housing imitates the central portion or main body of a gun, while the right hand end l3 imitates the butt of a gun, and the left hand end I4 is turned somewhat upwardly and formed into a head, having preferably a humorous funny face l5 turned towards the hammer I6 of the gun.

Hammer I6 is rockable on a pin ll secured into the walls of the housing, and the lower'part of the hammer has an extension l8 normally pressed in a downward direction by the spring I 9 coiled around the pin 20, as will be understood.

The body of the hammer also has a right hand extension or shoulder 2| acted upon by an appropriate extension or nose 22 of the trigger body 23, as will be explained presently. Said trigger body has a downwardly extending trigger proper 24, and is also provided with a slot 25 slidable on a pin 25, so that said trigger body 23 may rock around or-slide-on said pin 26. A second coiled spring 21 is acting-on the trigger body 23, as at 28, said spring being coiled around the pin 29.

A bell 30 is secured in the hollow head M, as by the screw 3|. A slot 32 is also provided in the wall of the head M, at about the center of the forehead of the face thereof, and a laterally bent projecting end 33 of the hammer I6 may enter said slot.

The operation of my toy gun is as follows:

Taking the normal 5 rting position of the gun illustrated in Fig. 1, rearward pull will be exerted upon the trigger 24 by the index finger of the player as usual, the body 23 of the trigger sliding backwardly and downwardly in the slot 25 on the pin 26, said pin then being, with relation to the trigger body 23 in the position shown in Fig. 1, that is, pin 26 will be in the upper end of the slot 25. Upon said rearward pull on the trigger proper 24, in the direction of arrow 24a, the trigger body 23 will rotate around the pin 26, in the direction of arrow 23a, the nose 22 engaging the shoulder 2| of the hammer l3 and thereby causing said hammer to rotate in a clockwise direction, as indicated by arrow Ilia, its end projection 33 emerging from the slot 32, as indicated in Fig. 2. I

Upon a continued pull on the trigger 24, the nose 22 will finally disengage and free the shoulder 2|, and now hammer It will suddenly return into its position shown in Fig. 1 under the influence of the spring I9, its projection 33 quickly hitting the bell 30 and sounding the same.

The trigger body 23 is now entirely free of the hammer I 6, and under the influence of the spring 27 it will be pushed upwardly, its slot 25 sliding on the pin 26, until said pin will be in the lower end 25a of the slot, as indicated in an imaginary manner in Fig. 2, and upon a new pull on the trigger 24, the parts will again take up the position shown in Fig. l and a new so-called firing of the gun may again be effected in the same manner as has been described hereinbefore.

A trigger guard 34 may also be provided, to make the gun more nearly resemble a real one.

In Fig. 3, I indicate the eyes of the funny face by the numeral 35, the nose by the numeral 36,

and the mouth by the numeral 31.

A notable diiierence between the usual guns and my toy gun is that the relation of the hammer and trigger is the reverse, in my toy gun the hammer being forwardly of the trigger, while usually, it is to the right thereof. In this'manner my hammer I6 is brought close to the head 14 at the front end of the gun, and may strike the bell 30 quickly, efliciently and with the shortest possible construction.

What I claim as new, is:

In toy gun having a hollow body, in combination, a transverse hammer pin, a hammer projecting upwardly from said body, and being rockable on said pin, a forward extension on said hammer, a hammer spring acting on said extension and normally urging said hammer forwardly, a rearward extension on said hammer having an upper flat surface, a transverse trigger pin to the rear of said hammer pin, a trigger body having an upwardly and forwardly inclined slot by which the same is rockable and slidable on said trigger pin, a trigger proper extension on said trigger body projecting downwardly through a slot in said gun body, a rearward extension on said trigger body having an upper flat surface, a trigger spring acting on said rear trigger extension surface and normally urging said trigger body in an upward and forward direction on said pin, a

forward projection on said trigger body having a lower flat surface, adapted to engage said upper surface on the rearward extension of the hammer, said trigger proper being arranged in such a manner that a rearward pull will force said trigger body backwardly and downwardly on its pin and will rock said trigger body in a forward direction, said rearward extension on said hammer and said forward projection on said trigger body co-acting and causing said hammer to rock in a rearward direction, but at a pre-determined phase of rotation, said trigger body disengaging said hammer and permitting its rocking and striking forwardly under the influence of the hammer spring, said trigger body then being free to slide upwardly on its pin under the infiuence of the trigger spring, a renewed pull on the trigger proper in such a position again causing said rearward extension on the hammer and said forward projection on the trigger body to temporarily engage each other, as before.
