FlIGU RE WHEELED TOY.
Application filed February 14, 1921. serial 110.444,?43.
1 o all whom it may come m:
Be it known that I, ALFRED J. LYNCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements .in Figure Wheeled T oys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to amusement devices, particularly to toys, and has for its object the provision of a toy adapted to be either pushed or pulled by a child and including a figure so constructed and mounted that when the device is pushed or pulled along the figure will move to simulate the 'manner simulating the movement of the leg movement of a cyclericler. the device being intended to be interesting and entertaining for the young.
An important and most specific object is the provision of a toy of this character including a handle carrying wheels adapted to be trundled along the ground, the handle oted leg sections or limbs which are pivotally connected with the wheels and which during their movement serve to operate arms pivoted upon the body.
An additional objectis the provision of a toy of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, highly eflicient and entertaining in use, durable in serviceand a general improvement in the art.
rVith the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described, and claimed and illustrated in the. accompanying drawings, in which Figure l. is a side elevation of one form of my device.
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of a modified form, and
Figure 4.- is a front elevation thereof.
Referring more particularly to the drawings and especially to the form shown in Figures 1 and 2, I have shown my dev1ce as comprising an elongated handle 10. which extends between a pair of disks or wheels 11 which are journaled thereon and which are provided on their outer sides with eccentric pin members 12. Secured upon the handle 10 near the wheels 11.. as by a means of a screw 13 or the like is a figure including a body portion 1a. having a head 15 and arms 16. This figure is designel to simulate any desired object though in the present instance it is shown as representing a clown.
Pivotally connected with the body portion 14 as shown at 17 are upper leg mem bers 18 which are pivotally connected as shown at 19 with lower leg members 20 which are in turn pivotally connected with the eccentric pin. members 12.
In the operation of the form of the device it will be seen that when the wheels .11 are trundled along either forwardly or backwardly, the rotation thereof will cause the pin members 12 to move the limbs or legs constituted by the sections 18 and 20 in a of a bicycle rider.
In the form of the device shown in Figures 3 and a the structure is the same except that instead of having rigid arms as in the previously described form, I provide arms 21 which are pivoted upon the body as indicated at 22. These arms 21 are pivotally connetced with the upper leg members by means of links 23 as clearly illustrated so that as the legs are moved during the rotation of the disks or wheels 11 the arms 21 will be correspondingly moved up and down upon their pivots 22 so as to produce a still. more life-like simulation of a cycle rider. In actual practice it is of course understood that the figure may have its different portions colored in any different manner so as to present an attractive appearance and it is ikewise preferable that the disks or wheels 11 be divided into segments or sectors which are likewise vari colored so as to produce a more artistic appearing device.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apiiiarent that I have thus provided a very simply constructed and. easily operated toy which will be highly amusing and entertaining to the young, especially inasmuch as the move ments of the figure are extremely lifelike and attractive.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form. construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is:
l A figure wheeled toy comprising an eloning lower members pivotally connected with 10 the upper members and pivotally connected .with the adjacent disks eccentrically of the latter, and links pivotally, connected with the lower portions of the upper leg sections and pivotally connected with the extremities 15 of the arms. v
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature,
ALFRED J LYNCH.
