1 Claim.
The present invention relates to wheeled figure toys and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.
Generally, the invention comprises a wheeled device having a platform upon which is mounted a pair of simulated animal figures which are pivoted at their base portions and are each interconnected with cranks formed as a part of the axles for the wheels whereby motion is imparted to the figures giving them a very lifelike activity.
It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a device of the character described above which will be simple in construction, easy to manufacture and which will afford a great deal of pleasure to children. Another object of the invention is the provision of novel means for translating motion from the wheels of a wheeled toy to simulated animal figures formed as a part of such toy.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a toy of this kind wherein a plurality of figures representing animals or the like may have motion imparted to them in such manner that they may seem to act independently of each other in a lifelike manner.
Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunction with the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical elevational view, partly in section, of a device embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a plan view in section taken along line 22 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the device shown in Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings,
there is shown therein a wheeled figure toy com prising a platform I having four depending legs II,- one pair mounted forwardly and the other pair mounted rearwardly to the under side of the platform.
At the lower ends of each pair of legs II is journaled, as indicated at I2, an axle I3 carrying a wheel I4 at each of its outer ends. The center portion of each axle is bent to form a crank I5.
Upon the platform is mounted a pair of vertically extending arms I8 to the upper end of each of which is pivotally mounted a figure I'I simulating, in this case, a rooster. It will be noted that the figures are so mounted as to face each other and that a shaft I8 interconnects the crank I5 in each case with a pivotal connection I9 at the rear portions of its respective figure I'I. Centrally mounted upon the platform I0 is a bowl 211 and to the forward end of the platform ID is attached a drawstring 2I.
In operation, it will be seen that when a child or other operator of the device exerts a pull upon the drawstring 2| that the wheels I 4 will be forced to rotate thereby causing the axles l3 and the cranks I5 to likewise rotate. Reciprocal motion will therefore be imparted in a substantially vertical direction to the shafts I8, causing the figures I! to rotate from an upright position to a bowed position such as is indicated by the dotted line positions in Figure 1 and thereby causing the figures to simulate a pair of roosters eating from the bowl 20.
Since the cranks i5 will not at all times operate in synchronism, it will be apparent that the figures I i will apparently act independently of each other thus causing a more lifelike representation than would be the case if a single mechanism operated both of the figures.
While but one form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
An animated toy comprising a platform, surface engaging wheels providing a mobile support for the platform, a pair of figures each simulating a fowl, means fixed to and rising from adjacent each end of the platform pivotally mounting said figures in positions facing one another, a member simulating a food receptacle supported on the platform between said means and between'and beneath the adjacently disposed,
head simulating, ends of the figures, said figures being supported by said means for individual movement between upright positions and inclined positions with the head simulating ends inclined toward and disposed above and adjacent said member and in simulated eating positions, a pair of axles each fixed to a different wheel of the toy and each provided with a crank, and connecting rods connecting the adjacently disposed cranks and figures, each connecting rod having an end pivotally connected to a figure in spaced relationship to its pivotal support and cooperating with the mounting means to support the figure in any adjusted position.
