HADLEY S. CRAYTON, 0F TOWANDA, ILLINOIS.
SANITARY TOILET SEAT.
Application filed January 6, 1922. Serial No.' 527,329.
To all whom t may concer/n.:
Be it known that I, HADmY S. CRAYTON,
a citizen of the United States, residing atl Towanda, in the county of McLean and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Toilet Seats, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my said invention is the provision of an improved sanitary toilet 'seat for use on a water-closet seat, and one possessed of such characteristics that a person can use the sanitary seat with the assurancel that when the top sheet thereof is removed the next lower sheet will be perfectly clean and dry.
To the attainmentl of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification:-
Figure 1 is a plan view showing the sanitary seat as properly positioned on a water closet seat.
Figure 2 is a vertical section of the same on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a reduced perspective of the sanitary seat base per se.
Figure 4 is a plan view of one of the sheets of paper comprised in the sanitary seat.
Figures 5 and 6 are enlarged detail sections taken in the planes indicated by the lines 5 5 and 6-6, respectively, of Figure 1.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
In Figures 1 and 2 I show an ordinary water closet bowl 1 above which is arranged the usual wooden seat 2 with pads 3 at its underside.
My novel sanitary seat comprises among other elements a base 4 of heavy card-board vor other appropriate material capable of being pressed or otherwise reduced to the sad- A dle formation illustrated in Figure 2 in cross-section. The said base 4 is of the same general configuration as the seat 2. Figure 3. and its inner pendent flange 5 is deeper than its outer or marginal pendent flange 6 in about the proportion illustrated. On its lower edge the said flange 5 is provided at intervals with inwardly-extending ears 7. The outer flange 6 is provided at 6X with an outwardly-extending tab.
The paper sheets are each designated by 8 and are arrangedvin a pad of as man sheets as desired, each sheetbeing, by pre erence, paraffined, oiled orotherwise treated so as to enable the sheet that is uppermost toeffectively prevent the passage of moisture to the next lower sheet, and in that way assure the latter sheet being perfectly dry and clean when the uppermost sheet is removed. It will also be noted that the pad of sheets 8 is arranged in'straddling fashion over the base 4, and that flanges 9 are provided at the inner edges of the sheets which flanges are superimposed on the base ears 7 and are connected to said ears by staples 10, preferably-of fine wire, as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 6. The sheets 8 are further provided with tongues 11, Figures 4 and 5, preferably doubled or folded on themselves, as indicated by 12, and superimposed on the base tab 6*. The said tongues 11 are provided in order that a person may readily take hold of and pull the uppermost sheet 8 from the pad as when it is desired to expose a fresh and clean sheet for use.
Manifestly my novel sanitary seat is adapted to be marketed and handled as an article of manufacture, and when the sheets of a seat are exhausted the base 4 is removed from the water closet seat 2 to give place to the base 4 of a fresh sanitary seat.
In practice a person Wishing to use the improved sanitary seat has simply to grasp the tongue 11 of the uppermost sheet 8 Vand remove the said sheet when such person will be assured of a perfectly clean and dry protective surface above and Within and without the water closet seat 2.
I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of the parts embraced in the present and preferred embodiment of my invention in order to impart a full, clear and exact understanding of the said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as 'confining myself tothe sald specific construction and relative arrangement of parts inasmuch as in the future practice of the invention various changes and modifications may be made such as fall within the scope of my invention as dened in my appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I lclaim and desire to secure by Letters-Pat ent, iszl. A sanitary toilet seat for use on water closet seats, comprising a base of saddleshape cross-section with spaced ears reaching inwardly lfrom the lower edge of its inner pendent portion'and with -a tab reachportion arranged on the .tab of thehase,
and means connecting the pad flange tothe ears of the base.
2. A sanitary toilet seat for use on water closet seats, comprising a base of saddleshape cross-section with spaced ears reaching inwardly from the lower edge of its inner pendent portion, a pad of paper sheets corresponding in cross-section shape to and superimposed on the base and having an inwardly-directed flange arranged upon the ears of the base, and means conneeting the pad flange to the ears of the base.
In testimony whereof, I afiX my signature.
HADLEY S. CRAYTUN.
