H. D. LEWIS SANITARY TOILET SEAT COVERING Filed May 1, 1924 Jvvavrmv I v lieu/71727121151105.
Patented June 16, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SANITARY TOILET-SEAT COVERING.
Application filed May 1, 1924. Serial No. 710,370.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD DOANE LE IS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of the town of Pictou, in the Province of Nova Scotia and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new 1nd useful Improvements in Sanitary Toilet- Seat Coverings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sanitary toilet seat covers. The objects of the invention are to provide a simple, effective and economical device of this character adapted to be manufactured in large quantities and marketed at very low cost,
- while more efliciently' performing the several functions required of it from a sanitary and practical view.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists essentially in the novel arrangement and construction of parts as described in the present specification and illustrated by the accompanying drawing that form part of the same. 4
Referring now to the drawings, in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure. v
Figure 1 is a plan view of .the device, complete with hanger.
Figure 2 isa section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the cover with hanger removed.
Figure. '1 is a perspective detail of the hanger with dotted lines showing the covers. Figure 5 is a sectional detail through the cover and seat.
In the drawings A designates the devic as a whole comprising a cover 10 of any suitable material and of any suitable size adapted to be used in quantities and provided with a central opening 11 with plain or crimped and slotted, as illustrated, inner edges to allow for lapping. down and to prevent tearing. These covers are adapted to be used in large quantities and are suitably formed to be carried, as illustrated in Fi ures 1 and 2 by a hanger member 12. Th1s hanger or suspendable container forms an essential feature of my invention and is designed to be suspended in an convenient position by means oflugs 13 aving openings 13 therein adapted to engage with securing means. The .hanger is formed of a single piece of flexible material suitably bent on itself to form the container portion 14 with an open mouth having a plurality of spaced teeth 15, these teeth being designed to register with openings in a back board of suitable material 15 with the container portion 14 and substantially of the same formation as the said cover.
In use a quantity of these covers are inserted in the container portion of the hanger lying snugly against the back board 15 and being perforated by the teeth 15 until required, individually, for use.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely difi'erent embodiments of m lnvention, within the scope of the claim, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
In a device of the character described, the combination with a backboard having orifices therein of a length of spring metal sheeting bent to form a frame with top and bottom sides in spaced relationship to one another and having an open front and open ends, the bottom side being of greater width than the top and provided with spaced orifices designed to register with the outer edge of the top, teeth formed in the outer edge of the top and designed to penetrate sheets of paper or the like and to engage with orifices in the extended bottom and means for rigidly securing the frame to the backboard and suspension members carried by the backboard.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
HOWARD DOANE LEWIS. Witnesses: I HENRY MAOAJRTHUR, J OBIAH MAODUANII.
