Be it known that I, MroHEAn J, KERLEY, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Sioux City, in the county of Woodhury and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safes and Vaults, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to safes and vaults and particularly to a safety device applied to the doors of such safes or vaults intended to release a poisonous gas upon the distortion of the locking bar of the safe, as would occur by the use of explosives for dislodging the lock, or the employment of other force, such as hammering or the like, to effect its dislodgment.
An object of this invention is to provide a tank or container for the source of thepoisonous gas, whether it be a'l-iquid'which, upon evaporation, produces the gas, or whether it is in gaseous form when stored, and means for fracturing the material of the container upon the distortion or dislodgment. of the said locking bar, it being, of course, understood that the container is preferably formed of sheet metal or some plastic compostion such as earthenware which can be punctured or fractured by the spurs.
It is a further object. of this .invention to provide adjustable fracturing elements in order that their positions with relation to the container or holder may be changed to suit particular requirements and proportions,

1. In a safe or vault door having a locking bar, spurs carried by the locking bar, and a container fora poisonous element located in proximity to the spurs to be fractured by the spurs upon abnormal movement of the locking bar. I n
