Description

UNITED STA'I'Es A'rEN'r OFFICE.
FRANK Goruns, oF GLEVELAND, yoHIo.
Spccification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,335, dated fieptenher 2, 1873; application filed March 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK Gonms, of Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Revolving Serew-Bolt Lock, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to that class of locks in Which a bolt is thrown out with a key 5 and consists in the peeuliar construction of the bolt and face plate, whereby it is made to revolve when thrown out, and being made in the form of a screw securely holds the two parts joined by the lock together. It is peculiarly adapted to all uses to which a bolt-lock is required.
The following is a description of its construction and operation.
Referring to the accompanyin g drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved lock having the outside plate removed to show the interior parts. Fig. 2 is an edge or end view of the lock, showing the face plate and the end of the bolt.
A represents the case of a lock of the usual' which is attached to the sliding-plate G by a swivel, which allows it to turn or revolve, the bolt passing out through the end of the lock through a hole fitting the screw-bolt, and
which causes the bolt to revolve when moved out or in. The plate F, into which the bolt passes, and which is attaehed opposite to the face plate of the lock, has an opening conforming to the shape of the bolt, and serves as a nut which fits the bolt.
This Construction and arrc ngement of the bolt adapts the lock to a greater range of use than the square bolt, and is equally useful for drawer-locks, trunk-locks, or lids of any kind, or for foldin'g-doors, the screw on the bolt preventing the separation of the two parts loeked without revolvin g the bolt. i
I claim- A screw-bolt, D, swiveled to the plate by which it is thrown and retracted, and revolved by means of a correspondingly-formed opening in the end of the lock-case and catch-plate, when operated by the key, substantially as described.
FRANK GORRIS.
