IM PROVEMENT IN LOCK-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,183, datedDecember 12, 1876; application filed October 26, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SYLvANUs LYON, of New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Locks, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide for the fastening of circular locks either to AWood Or metal in a simpler, cheaper, and more effective manner than heretofore done.
My invention consists in casting a screw into the bottom part Ot' the casing (ot` cast metal) Of a circular lock.
A hole is bored into the wood or metal of the object to which the circular lock is to be attached, the hole being made somewhat larger than-the diameter of the circular lock. The lock is provided with a circular iange at the top, which is laid into the wood or metal, and thus covers the hole. In the bottom part and center Of the metal or wood, which forms the end Ot' the hole, a smaller hole is bored, into which the point of the screw is placed, and by turning the lock the screw is screwed into this smaller hole, which is made somewhat smaller thau the screw itself. The lock is readily turned down so that the circular flange comes down in line with the surface of the wood or metal, by aid of a wrench or key fitted over the bolt of the lock.

sire to claim- The lock-casing A, provided with a circular flange, B, on its outer end, and a screw, C, permanently attached to its inner end, as described, so that the case will be secured in place by revolving the screw and case together, as set forth.
