To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE zen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Blade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved razor blade holder for sharpening safety razor blades, and is of the type that is passed along the top oi a strop and has geared sleeves that are rotatable in unison, one of them rotating when the motion of the device on the strop is reversed, and the other one carrying a clip'in which the razor blade is fastened and which presses against the strop after the rotation of the rollers ceases.
The invention is designed to provide a device of this type which is made of but few parts and is constructed so that the pinions, by means of which the sleeves are connected, even when made of thin material, are prevented from getting out of alignment or from separating so that they are out of mesh, and one in which the axles of the sleeves are made integral with the handle.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side view of the improved razor blade holder. Figure 2 is a section on line 22 in Figure 1. Figure 3 is a section on line 33-in Figure 1. Figure 4c is an enlarged view showing part of the axles and the ends of two of the sleeves with their pinions, and illustrating a modified form. of stop, and Figure 5 l is an enlarged section through line 5-5 in Figure 4:.
The main or supporting part of the device is made of a wire which is bent to form an open loop which provides a handle 10, the ends o1 the wire being arranged in parallel relation to term the axles 1.l.- The sleeves 12 are arranged so that they rotate on the axles 11. the sleeves having pinions 13 on one end, these pinions being in mesh and insuring the rotation of these sleeves in unison, the drawing showing pinions 18 on both ends of the sleeves.
On the inner ends of the sleeves is arranged a perforated plate 14, and a similar plate 15 is arranged on the outer ends of the'sleeves so that the sleeves and their pinions are held against longitudinal move- Bnrz, a citiment. The plates are perforated so that the axles 11 pass through them rather snugly, and this prevents any separation of the axles, so that the gears can not get out of mesh through separation due to any springing of the axles.
A suitable clip 16 is arranged on one of the sleeves having suitable means, such as the spring arms 17, for holding a razor blade 18. This clip is preferably arranged radially on a sleeve sothat a blade, when it travels around on the opposed sides of the device, as shown in Figure 3, is held at the proper angle to the str0p"19.
The plate 14 is held against inward movement at the juncture of the axles and the handle portion by drops of solder 20, and the outer plate 15 is held in place by heading the axles or by depositing drops of solder thereon, as shown at 21 in Figure 1.
An alternative method of fastening the plates 1.4 and 15 against movement away from the sleeves is by flattening the wire of the axles, as shown at 22 in Figures 4 and 5, which flattening, of course, provides for the corresponding protruding or projection of material on opposite sides of the'wire, this enlargement preventing any movement beyond it of the plates 14 and 15.
I claim:
1. A razor blade holder comprising a handle formed of wire bent into a loop with its ends projecting to form parallel axles, sleeves rotatably arranged on said axles and having pinions in mesh to rotate the sleeves axles and holding them in alignment, said I plates forming stops for the sleeves, and a blade-holding clip secured to one of the sleeves.
