RAZOR HOLDER.
Application filed May 28, 1924. Serial No, 716,408.
To all fui/mm it may concer/12..'
Be it hereby known that l. Encan H. Lnsnim. a citizen of the United States, and a resident ot Portland, in the county ot Multnomah and State ot Oregon. have invented a new and useful. Razor Holder, ot which the following is a specitication.
This invention relates generally to the ton soriahart, and particularly to means tor holding blades ot safety razors while sharpening,` same on an ordiinnfy strop.
An obj ect Iof my invention is to provide an r exceedingly simple and ei'licient holder 'for all kinds of safety razor blades while sharpening on an ordinary razor strop.
A second object is to provide a wooden holder which will be light in Weight, easy to manufacture and easily kept clean.
A third object is to so construct same that the blades can be secure-ly held and easily inserted or released from the holder.
A fourth object is to so construct the device that both thick and thin bladesmay be held Without injuringl the cuttingl edge Which may accidentally come in contact with the holder.
A .fifth object is to so construct the holder that it cannot injure the strop. t
I accomplish these results in the manner set forth in the 'following speciiication and illustrated in the accompanying` drawing. in Whiclir- Figure 1 is a side showing it holding Wafer blade.
elevation ot 1n device an ordinary two-edge FigureQis a plan of Figure 1. Figure l is a section taken along the line 3 3 in Figure 1. Figure -l is a section taken along the line 4-l in Figure il. F igure 5 1s a section taken along' the line 5 5 in .Figure 3. Figure (i is a section taken along the line (i (i in Figure 3.
Similar numbers ot reference reter to the same parts throughout the several views.
Referring; in detail to the drawing'. l have constructed my device ot tivo wooden handle members 1() and 11 Whose ends 12 are provided with recesses 153 to receive the back oi a concave blade 14.
A rivet 15 passes through both members 10 and 11 and unites them into a solid handle. A doivel pin 16 passes through the end of the handle and holds the members 11 and 12 in their propel' relation. The doWel pin can be Withdrawn by springing the members 10 and 11 apart, which permits the two halves of the holder to rotate on the rivet 15 in scissors fashion, it'or cleansing' purposes.
At the end 1:2 l have provided a springe. clamp 1T VWhose open end iti crosses and clamps against the outer sides ot the ends 12 in grooves provided therein. The ends 19 ot the clamp 17 are inturned and tit into small holes at the ends oi the clamp groores.
It can readily be seen that pressure applied to the ring-shaped handle oi the clamp 17 will canse the intnrned ends .i9 to separate and to be disengaged from the ends 12, thereby permitting' the ends 12 to spring' apart and alloW the introduction or the Withdrawal of a blade. Y
The operation ot' my device is as follows: When desiring to sharpen a blade the clamp 17 is removed. as above described, and the blade inserted into the hole. as shown in Figure 1 or 4, depending` upon the type ot blade being sharpened. The clamp 1T is noW replaced and theholdenwith the blade V1l or LLA, are applied to the strop in the same manner as would be an ordinary7 stili?- baclied razor until the desired edge is obtained.
lt is evident thatl other 'forms ot tasteners may be employed to take the place ot the clamp 17, the rivet 15 and the dowel pin 16 Withoutdeparting' trom the spirit of my inrention.
l am aware that ma ny forms of" holders have been constructed tor saifety razor blades. l therefore do not expectto cover such devices broadly but l do intend to cover all such terms and modifi -ations thereoi2 as t'all tairly Within the appended claim.
l cla-ini:
A holder t'or razor blades having'. in combination a somewhat elliptical elongated trame constructed otl Wood and split along its major axis: a pivot joiningl the halves of said trame near its middle separatingY the handle end 'trom its blade holding' end; a fastener at the extreme end oi'l said handle portion; and al spring clamp at the extreme end ot its blade holding'portion, said clamp consisting ot a Wire ring Whose ends intersect and turn parallel along` side ot said holder and the tips of Whose ends turn inwardly and engage holes l'ormed in the outer sides ot the blade holding end ot said trame.
EDGAR H. LUSHER.
