4 Claims.
The invention relates to a blade holder 'and more particularly to a safety razor blade holder.
The primary object Yof the invention is the provision of a holder of this character, wherein a safety razor blade, either of the single or double cutting edge type, and of varying kinds, can be securely and firmly held, so that such blade can be quickly and conveniently sharpened or honed, without liability of injury to the `operator handling the holder.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character, wherein a razor blade is easily placed therein and readily removed, the said holder being of novel construction, and is possessed of few parts, thus relieving it of complicated make-up.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eiicient in operation, readily and easily adjusted, strong, durable, light in weight, without sacrificing strength, conveniently handled, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred and modied forms of construction thereof, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side view of a holder constructed in accordance with the invention showing a blade held therein.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the holder in non-clamping position and the blade presented thereto.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary side View of the male member of the holder.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line -4-4 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a sectional view of the line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a side view of a slight modification.
Figure 7 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Figure 8 is a perspective View of one part of the structure shown in Figures 6 and 7.
Figure 9 is a sectional view on the line 9 9 of Figure 6.
Figure 10 is a fragmentary side view of a further modication.
Figure 11 is a sectional view on the line II-II of Figure 10.
Referring to the drawing in detail, Figures 1 to 5, inclusive, A designates generally 'a razor blade holder constructed in accordance with the invention. This holder A comprises a pair of slidably nterfitted members I 0 and II, respectively. These members each are made from a single piece of strip metal, the member I0 'being longitudinally folded to provide a sleeve for the member II, which ts therein, and such member I0 at one end is provided with retaining jaws I2 having instruck holding edges I3. These edges I3 slightly overhang the longitudinal edge neXt thereto of the member II, which is formed with a notch providing a seat I4 for a thickened heel edge I5 of a razor blade I6 of the single cutting edge type. This notch I4 when matching the jaws I2 of the member I0 enables the blade I6 to be securely held in place in the holder.
The member I0 at the other end is provided with overlapping ears I1 for coupling the members I0 and II together, while the member II is formed with a terminal stop I8 for contacting the member I0, so as to limit movement thereof in one direction under sliding displacement.
The member II) carries a cross pin I9 which intersects a slot 2E in the member l I, to hold the said members in alignment when slidably adjusted, and also this pin prevents spreading of the sides of the member IIJ, thus strengthening the same.
In Figures 6 to 9, inclusive, of the drawing there is shown a modification of the holder, wherein the member 2| which is the sleeve part similar in some respects to the member I0, excepting the pin I9 and slot 20 thereof, while 'slidably fitted within this member 2| is a pair of elongated sprngy arms 22 formed from a single length of strip material folded on itself medially thereof to provide a closed end 23. These arms 22 remote from the end 23 are provided with iiat widened jaws 24 which intert the jaws 25 of the member 2| when matched therewith. One of the jaws 24 has an elongated slot 25, while the other jaw 24 has spaced lugs 26 instruck therefrom and matching the slot 25 to enter the same. These lugs 26 anchor a double cutting edged razor blade 21 between the jaws 24 when closed thereon and intertting the jaws 25 of the member 2l, which is slidable on the arms 22 for the opening and closing of the jaws 24. When the jaws 24 are opened the blade can be readily removed from its anchored position as will be obvious.
In Figures 10 and 11 of the drawing there is shown a further modification, wherein in lieu of the slotted pin I9 a lug 28 instruck from the side of the member 29 may be substituted.
The member having the arms 22 at the closed end can be tted with a loose ring 30 which can function as a stop and also for hanging the holder when not in use.
From the foregoing it is believed that the constructions and manner of use of the holders, both the preferred and modied forms thereof, will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted'.
What is claimed is:
l. A holder o1 the kind described, comprising interfitting slidably related relatively at members, one of which is bent upon itself longitudinally to have relatively spaced substantially parallel sides between which the other member is slidably received, means for anchoring a razor blade within the innermost member, and laterally extending opposed jaws formed on the outermost member for engaging and supporting the razor blade when anchored.
2. A holder 0f the kind described, comprising intertting slidably related relatively flat mem bers one of which is bent upon itself longitudinally to have relatively spaced substantially parallel sides between which the other member is slidably received, means for anchoring a razor blade within the innermost member, laterally ex- .tending opposed jaws formed on the outermost member for engaging and supporting the razor blade when anchored, and means for limiting the sliding movements of the members with respect to each other.
3. A holder for safety razor blades comprising intertting slidably related relatively at members, one of which is bent upon itself medially and longitudinally to have relatively spaced substantially parallel side portions between which the other member is slidably received, said side portions being of substantially the same width as the said other member, means for anchoring a razor blade within the innermost member, and a. laterally extending jaw formed on each side part of the outermost member, said jaws being adjacent one end of said member and transversely aligned and bent slightly toward each other at their Outer edges to engage and support the razor blade when anchored, and means for limiting the sliding movement of the members with respect to each other.
4. A holder of the kind described, comprising two parallel spaced members closed along one edge and having its upper edges drawn inwardly adjacent one end in parallel relation forming a restricted slot, a member slidably mounted between said spaced members, and means for anchoring a razor in said slidable member against longitudinal movement, and adapted to be moved below the inwardly drawn upper edges with the razor blade passing through the restricted slot.
