PAPER CLIP.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 6, 1922.
Application filed October 21, 1920. Serial No. 418,424.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK P. HOLT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort North, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Paper Clip, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a paper clip and i has for its principal object the production of asimple and eflicient device for holding numerous sheets of paper together.
Another object of the invention is to produce a paper clip which will hold numerous sheets of paper together without having a tendency to slip from engagement therewith.
A still further object ofthe invention is to generally improve upon paper clips of this character by providing a device whlch will be extremely simple, durable, and inexpensive in construction, one Which is eflicient and reliable in operation, and well adapted to the purposes for which it is desired.
In the drawing 1- Figure 1 is a plan view of the paper clip, and
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof showing same in use.
By referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals it will be seen that the numeral 1 designates the base of the paper clip which is formedpf resilient wire and has the outer U-shaped frame 2 and the inner U-shape frame 3 each connected to the ends of the base 1. The outer frame 2 is provided with the leg t integrally connected to one end of the base 1 and the leg 5 whichhas one end free while the inner frame 3 is provided with the leg 6 which is integrally connected to the other end of the base 1 and the other leg? which has one end free. Thus it will be seen that this clip may be formed by bending a single strand of resilient wire. It is desired to especially point out that this paper clip is corrugated throughout its entire length so that when sheets of paper are engaged by the clip in the usual manner the corrugation will engage the ends of edges tire engagement with the paper but merely placed a short distance thereof and in my clip it will be seen that these corrugations will engage the edges of the paper no matter how far the clip is pushed over the edges and thus prevent the clip from slipping from engagement therewith as would naturally be the tendency of a clip .bent from resilient wire as is necessary in order that it will have any gripping action at all.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood without'a more extended explanation. As numerous changes in form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of this invention, I do not wish. to be limited to the construction herein shown and de scribed other than as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. A paper clip including a strand of wire bent to embrace opposite sides of the paper and corrugated throughout its length so that its corrugations extend in the same plane with the clip.
2. A paper clip formed from a strand of resilient wire so as to provide an outer and inner U-shaped frame in the same plane with each other and so as to be corrugated throughout its entire length and said cor rugations extending in the same plane with the frame.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
FRANK P. HOLT. Witnesses:
S. P. BROWN, MORRIS REGTOR.
