CHECK-PROTECTQR.
Y Specification of Letters Patent. Patigntgdl IW 16 11922 Application filed April 1, 1921. Serial No. 457,592.
To all whom it 'mdg concern:
Be it known that 1, Arrow B. HIMEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Van Wert, in the county of Van VVert and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Check Protector, of which thefollowing is a specification. lhis invention aims to provide a check protector of light and simple form which, if desired, may be mounted upon and carried by one cover of a check book, in a convenient and accessible position.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve. generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in View, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the .precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1- shows iii-plan, a check book whereunto the protector forming the subject matter ofthis application has been applied; Figure 2 is a plan of the protector; Figure 3 is a section on the line 33 of Figure 2; and Figure 4 is asection on the line 44 of Figure 2.
The check protector forming the subject matter of this application preferably is made in one piece out of resilient material, and includes a U-shaped member 1 embodying arms 2 and 3 having transverse extensions 4 carrying the impression surfaces 5 which may be roughened or constructed otherwise. The protector includes a U-shapedclip 6 disposed substantially at right angles to the U- shaped member 1, the clip embodying a free ended arm 7, and an arm 8, joined as indicated at 9 to one edge of the arm 3 of the member 1. The opposite edge of the arm 3 of the member 1 is supplied with a flange or projection" 10, extended toward the free ended arm 7.
The check protector may be used in various ways. It may be applied to a check book if desired. In Figure 1 of the drawings, the numeral 11 denotes a leaf of a check book, the stub appearing at 12, and one of the hinged covers at 14:. One edge of the cover 14: is received within the clip6, the flange or projection 10 enhancing the hold of the clip on the cover. The U-shaped member 1 extends along the inner surface of the cover 11, toward the leaves 11 of the book. Any leaf, denoted by the numeral 15 may be folded or bent as at 16, so as to bring the end of the leafbet-ween the extensions 4 of the member 1 whereupon, when the said extensions are premed toward each other, the impression surfaces 5 will leave a mark on the check. It is clear that, if desired, the check may be torn out of the book being operated upon by the impression surfaces 5.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is: y
1. A check protector comprising a U- shaped member embodying arms provided with impression surfaces, and a U-shaped clip disposed substantially at right angles to the U-shaped member, the clip embodying a free ended arm, and an arm joined to one edge of one .arm of the U-shaped member.
.2. A check protector constructed as set forth in claim 1 and further characterized by the fact that the opposite edge of said arm of the U-shaped memberis provided with a projection extended toward the free ended arm of the clip.
3. A check protector comprising a pair of superposed T-shaped clamping jaws connected at the ends of their shanks and asupport engaging clamp extending at right angles from the shank of one of said jaws.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto atfixediny signature inthe presence of two witnesses.
.ARLOW B. HIMES.
